Watched him in the first leg of the play-off draw vs Coventry. He played well, closing attackers down and tackling well when possible. He moves into good positions all the time, plays others in on the overlap and passes very well, usually first time. Ryan looks like a wing-back to me, Takes good corners and reminds me of Liverpool's captain. I would keep him to compete with Bueno for the same role next season and sell RAN.

I didn't see the match, but I would still be inclined to play him as ML or even AML. He looks a bit slight to be a defender, imo. In some of the highlights from various matches he seems to carry the ball well, so if he was tucked just outside the edge of the box where Jota used to wait, he might be an easy out ball. I agree that we should be looking to use him next season.

I’d be looking to sell both Jonny and semedo and add two new right backs in the summer.

RAN could go to the top, he's that talented. This narrative about him turning back in good positions or overplaying doesn't fit with the evidence of my eyes - both do happen occasionally but played in the right way (further forward) I think he'd make a big difference to our overall threat down the left. He's just superb with the ball at his feet. Bueno looks a better wing back though.

I love seeing young British players come through, so my heart says give Giles a chance too if, as you say, RAN is out.

Same for me. Attacking wise he’s very good, defensively he’s likely to come unstuck in the PL, as he’s only ok at this in the Champ. Agree that were we still playing with wing backs then he’s potentially great competition, but in a back four, I don’t think he makes it.

Thought Semedo put some really good balls in v Palace and united but nobody attacked them

He's definitely improved the defensive side of his game this season, but not ready for Premier yet IMHO. Ideal scenario for me is Boro lose in play-offs and he has another season developing under a top class young manager, rather than sit on our beach at best.

You're not yearning for a totally predictable nailed on starter are you?
JL is never likely to pick a totally predictable team and might not even play in a predictable way every week.
JL doesn't seem to have favourites either amongst players or team set up.

If Giles fits a particular way JL might want the opportunity to play from time to time, my guess is he will be in the 2023/4 squad

Got the uppermost respect for the proper fans , especially the ones who travel a distance to home games. ...And watch out for them scally Everton fans on the train on the way back .....I hate em I do Everton....had the misfortune of bumping into a few in Milan after the Torino away game. .... absolute racist scum ...that night didn't end well.

Always liked Everton but last 2 train journey home been a nightmare, as you say absolute scum, real hard when the regular group travelling from North Wales are all 70+. If my sons and son in law been in attendance they'd have **** themselves, total ****ers.

If we stick with 442 think it's a no brainer to keep him around if Lopetegui thinks he can mould him into an attacking LB * or one of the wide positions. Personally like the idea he could be back up for Neto in the LM position his delivery is a useful weapon.

From what I've seen of him, he has an excellent delivery and I imagine this is why his assist stats are so good. Lopetegui did say that our problem was chance creation, so why not keep him here for next season.

On a similar note, I reckon Chiquinho may be another player to help us start scoring. His crossing was incredible.

What I mean is at present he isn't sure which left back to pick ...since he has come in lopetugui we have had rayan Jonny Bueno and toti swap about....whereas it always semedo for instance at right back .....no problem with a bit of rotation but he clearly has no faith as one as his first choice...

Left back is probably our most covered area in the squad but it probably has the weakest first choice in the team as such ....

I would put left back as a priority for starting 11 as the same as the forward .. A good left back say Raphael Guierriro who could chip in with goals and assists is vital for us going forward.....what ever Semedo faults are I would put him slightly above all of our current left back options.....

For me right back we need cover, left back we need a nailed on starter . Obviously in an ideal world both but it probably isn't viable...

I can't remember what injury Bueno got, but he hasn't played consistently since. Bits here and there, it's been. I'm not sure he's fully over whatever it was.
