Well, lets just hope this is a bit more successful than last season's :D.

Missed the first week, but a good place to start as we're currently on 2ppg.

Wolves 4 - 0 Gillingham

2 games, 4 points = 2ppg.

Averaged over the season, that's 92 points.

------------

Previous 5 seasons:

2012-13: 1st - 84 (1.83), 2nd - 83 (1.80)
2011-12: 1st - 101 (2.20), 2nd - 93 (2.02)
2010-11: 1st - 95 (2.07), 2nd - 92 (2)
2009-10: 1st - 95 (2.07), 2nd - 86 (1.87)
2008-09: 1st - 96 (2.09), 2nd - 89 (1.93)

So, on average (471/5) = 94.2 points for the title - 2.05 ppg.
For promotion, (443/5) = 88.6 points for 2nd - 1.93 ppg.

For the pessimistic, as there's an additional relegation place up for grabs for the dubious winner. 50 points should secure safety, here's the totals for the team that stayed up the past few years:

Previous 5 seasons:

2012-13: 20th 51 (1.11)
2011-12: 20th 50 (1.09)
2010-11: 20th 48 (1.04)
2009-10: 20th 50 (1.09)
2008-09: 20th 50 (1.09)

This thread made for good analysis and gave us a glimmer of hope last season.

Will update with this next week, it's easily obtained it's just a bit of an $$$$ to scan through 5 years worth of data and suss out the 4 places. Think last year I did this around Christmas.

EDIT: Thanks hathwolves. We'll go with that for now and see in a couple of months how we're fairing.

sorry but it's 3 points per game.....'as bin fer years!

Rumour has it the clubs in the 1st Division will soon split and form their own super league for TV money, and passing it back for the keeper to pick up will soon be outlawed :p There's also talk of the fall of the Berlin Wall and Thatcher...

Thanks all.

Bristol City 1 - 2 Wolves

3 games, 7 points = 2.33 ppg

Averaged over a season - 107 points. (rounded down, thanks Lupu).

1st/2nd place currently on a perfect run, 9 points = 3ppg. Unsustainable obviously so we'll see a truer picture after 10 games.

Final safety place from relegation - 1 point = 0.33ppg - slow start at the bottom.

Bit early as I'm off on holiday for the week

Wolves 2 - 1 Crawley

4 games, 10 points = 2.5 ppg

Averaged over a season - 115 points.

A long bank holiday weekend for those who play on the Friday, you'd imagine one of the top lot will pick up some points so no point looking at the surrounding PPG at the moment.

Ones to watch:

Leyton Orient vs Crewe
Tranmere vs Peterborough
Brentford vs Walsall

I reckon we'll finish the weekend in 2nd behind Orient but ahead of Peterborough who'll pick up a draw.

Will pick up a week on Monday.

I had us down for second place after todays games.
P boro have not won there first 4 games of a season since 1961!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so on that info maybe they will be getting a draw or a loss, here's hoping for no wins for others at the top with us.

Bit late as I'm back.

Port Vale 1 - 3 Wolves

5 games, 13 points = 2.6 ppg

Averaged over a season - 120 points rounded up.

A slip up for Peterborough at last, though I think I heard that Orient's 5 game winning start is the first in their history.

Crucially now, we're starting to see a little gap to 4th. Not much as we're still so early in the season but it does mean they need another win or two more than us already.

Orient - 15 points = 3ppg.
Wolves - 13 points = 2.6ppg.
Peterborough - 12 points = 2.4ppg.

Brentford, Rotherham, MK Dons all leading the chase in the playoffs on 9 points = 1.8ppg.

Safety from relegation - Bristol City - 3 points from 5 games = 0.6ppg.

Wolves 3 - 2 Swindon Town

6 games, 16 points = 2.67 ppg

Averaged over a season - 123 points rounded up.

Peterborough boost their goal difference given our near collapse at the end of the match. However, since last time they've played a game more. Orient keeping up their impressive start.

We must win the game in hand to keep the momentum going.

Orient - 18 points = 3ppg.
Peterborough - 16 points = 2.29ppg.
Wolves - 16 points = 2.67ppg.

6th place = 13 points, 1.86ppg.

Safety from relegation - Sheffield United (on a personal note, :D ) - 4 points from 7 games = 0.57ppg.

How's P'boros ppg the same as ours? We've played a game less.

Wolves 0 - 1 Walsall

7 games, 16 points = 2.29 ppg

Averaged over a season - 105 points rounded up.

Orient's winning/steamrollering start continues and at this early stage they now have a 5 point lead. Our PPG gives us a bit of breathing space for now, performances are another matter and we need to return to winning ways next game.

Orient - 21 points = 3ppg.
Peterborough - 16 points = 2.29ppg.
Wolves - 16 points = 2.29ppg.

Shrewsbury Town 0 - 1 Wolves

8 games, 19 points = 2.38 ppg

Averaged over a season - 109 points rounded down.

Crucial that we got back to winning ways again today, particularly as Peterborough managed to win with 9 men. Their GD again means they stay ahead of us in the table.

Preston and Rotherham (4th and 5th respectively) still have 2ppg as an average. Seems like it could be as tight as last year.

Orient - 24 points = 3ppg.
Peterborough - 19 points = 2.38ppg.
Wolves - 19 points = 2.38ppg.

EDIT: Updated to include Orient's result. While they're still steamrollering the division, we can't afford any slip ups. Let's hope we're not here to end Sheff Utd's $$$$ty run.

Wolves 2 - 0 Sheffield United

9 games, 22 points = 2.44 ppg

Averaged over a season - 112 points rounded down.

Orient have finally slipped up (though still drew), Peterborough win again. More importantly, we're back within 3 points of top spot.

Preston have crept above the 2ppg average, Bradford are just on it. Crucial to keep momentum.

Orient - 25 points = 2.78ppg.
Peterborough - 22 points = 2.44ppg.
Wolves - 22 points = 2.44ppg.

Colchester United 0 - 3 Wolves

10 games, 25 points = 2.5 ppg

Averaged over a season - 115 points.

Orient draw, however Peterborough win again to leave us just 1 point short of top spot. G/D also starting to look better. We're 9 points clear of 7th, currently MK Dons on 1.6ppg. We're also roughly halfway through to the target for survival after less than a quarter of the season.

International weekend will disrupt us and possibly a few others, so we'll just have to see how the rest of the pack cope. However, regardless of what happens, we'll kick off on Saturday 19 October in at least 3rd place.

Orient - 26 points = 2.6ppg.
Peterborough - 25 points = 2.5ppg.
Wolves - 25 points = 2.5ppg.

Sorry if this is slightly off topic but does anyone know a decent site that list results from previous seasons? I used to use wolves-stats.co.uk but the guy who ran it hasn’t updated for a couple of seasons and now the site is down altogether.

Just wanted to look back at how we performed over 10 games in 88/89.

Thanks in advance!

Doesn't give you the individual results, but does show the League table after our first 10 games that season.

3rd after 10 games, two defeats and 5 points behind the leaders. Good job we didn't have the internet in those days. This board would be in meltdown with Turner must go threads

Definitely think 2 points a game will do it in this league for automatic as only Posh are going to keep up their current form, Orient have already started to falter.

As per the first post, the last few seasons it's been just over 2.00 for the title and just under for promotion. However I think the play off chasing pack is going to be brutal. Depending on whether Orient slip up and another team such as Preston crack on, leaving us with a clear top 3, there's a case to be made again for the idea that if 3rd place are X points ahead of 4th, it should be a straight forward 3rd promotion spot rather than playoffs. Believe this is the way it's done in one of the other European leagues, possibly Italy?

For me, and I appreciate it's a bit off topic, the most surprising point was raised in another thread on Saturday. After 10 games, we're currently 20 points, and 2ppg clear of Sheffield United and you'd have to say that's an insurmountable gap even at this early stage (try and blank 01/02 from memory).

Wolves 1 - 1 Coventry City

11 games, 26 points = 2.36 ppg

Averaged over a season - 109 points (rounded up).

Unfortunately the international weekend wasn't kind to us, as a result we're now 6 points behind Orient (though with a game in hand), and an ex-Wolf got the winner for Peterborough today as well to put them 5 points clear of us.

Still 4 points clear of 4th (1.83 ppg), and 7 points clear of 7th (1.58).

Orient - 32 points = 2.67ppg.
Peterborough - 31 points = 2.58ppg.
Wolves - 26 points = 2.36ppg.

Fingers crossed someone topples Orient before we play them on December 29!
