League 1 record points total = 101

Fulham 1998/99
Charlton 2011/12

Wonder if we can make that? On current form we are pretty well bang on target, however the maximum total now available is 112 so we'd have to be right on our metal for the remainder of the season to achieve it.

Wolves 3 - 0 Port Vale

32 games, 70 points = 2.19 ppg

Averaged over a season - 101 points (rounded up).

1) Wolves - 2.19ppg
2) Orient - 2.06ppg (played two games more)
3) Brentford - 2.09ppg

I find it crazy how little of this season we've spent in first place, but who cares at the moment, it's where we are at the end of the season that truly counts.

Seven wins in a row, Jeff Stelling's just pointed out that over that run, it's 18-1 on aggregate.

Shame Orient came back to win but Brentford only drew 0-0 at Carlisle, makes our own 2-2 earlier in the season a bit more bearable.

14 games left.

Smallsall Town 0 - 3 Wolves

33 games, 73 points = 2.21 ppg

Averaged over a season - 102 points (rounded up).

1) Wolves - 2.21ppg
2) Orient - 2.03ppg (played two games more)
3) Brentford - 2.12ppg

Eight wins in a row, it's 21-1 on aggregate.

Orient only drawing is the stand out result, everyone else in what's looking to be the final top six (sorry Smallsall, and Rotherham didn't play) won.

13 games left.

Swindon Town 1 - 4 Wolves

34 games, 76 points = 2.24 ppg

Averaged over a season - 103 points (rounded up).

1) Wolves - 2.24ppg
2) Orient - 2.06ppg (played two games more)
3) Brentford - 2.15ppg

A record nine wins in a row, it's 25-2 on aggregate. Our goal difference is looking excellent.

Orient and Brentford both picking up wins to keep on the pressure. Preston threw away their lead at the death so only picked up a point, now 8 points behind and played 2 games more. However, should be noted that both Preston and Rotherham are now 11 games unbeaten.

I think it's safe to say that the title will require more than 2ppg average over the season (92 points). So for argument's sake, to get to 100 points which would currently put us beyond the reach of all bar Brentford and Orient, we need 24 points from the final 12 games = ... 2ppg.

If we win 10 out of the remaining 12 games we'll equal the record for the highest ever points total in the football league (106)... keep up the winning streak boys!

Wolves 0 - 0 Shrewsbury Town

35 games, 77 points = 2.2 ppg

Averaged over a season - 101 points (rounded down).

1) Wolves - 2.2ppg
2) Brentford - 2.17ppg
3) Orient - 2ppg (played two games more)

10 games unbeaten.

Typical that we didn't manage to crack on but on reflection the Brentford win was probably better than a draw between both. Win both games in hand and it'll be looking a lot healthier.

To mathematically guarantee promotion (102 points) we need 25 points from the final 11 games = 2.27ppg. 8 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats. Will tick this down over the next few weeks as the total required will hopefully drop.

I know we all wanted the 'run' to continue but another point closer to our target and other results today were not all that bad looking at the table..!

Crawley Town 2 - 1 Wolves

36 games, 77 points = 2.14 ppg

Averaged over a season - 98 points (rounded down).

1) Wolves - 2.14ppg
2) Brentford - 2.17ppg (played one game less)
3) Orient - 2ppg (played one game more)

It's down to the last 10 games, and it's still in our hands. No repeat of 01/02 please.

To mathematically guarantee promotion (102 points) we need 25 points from the final 10 games = 2.5ppg. 8 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat.

1) Wolves - 2.16ppg
2) Brentford - 2.19ppg (played one game less)
3) Orient - 1.97ppg (played one game more)

To mathematically guarantee promotion (100 points) we need 20 points from the final 9 games = 2.22ppg. 6 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat.

Wolves 4 - 2 Colchester United

38 games, 83 points = 2.18 ppg

Averaged over a season - 100 points (rounded down).

1) Wolves - 2.18ppg
2) Brentford - 2.14ppg (played one game less)
3) Orient - 1.95ppg (played one game more)

To mathematically guarantee promotion (98 points) we need 15 points from the final 8 games = 1.88ppg. 5 wins, 0 draws and 3 defeats would do it, or 4 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat (assuming Orient win all their games including the one against us).

Dare I say it, what a massive set of results that was. It's not in the bag yet given the Rotherham and Orient games to come, but still...

Third to fifth this season will rightly feel aggrieved to miss out on automatic promotion.

Orient is game 44, I expect it to be already all over by then -- we'll have enough points already

MK Dons 0 - 1 Wolves

1) Wolves - 2.21ppg
2) Brentford - 2.11ppg (played one game less)
3) Orient - 1.9ppg (played one game more)
4) Rotherham - 1.92ppg

To mathematically guarantee promotion (97 points) we need 11 points from the final 7 games = 1.57ppg. 3 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats would do it.

Another excellent set of results. I'll await Marrs_guitar's analysis but you'd have to fancy Rotherham's chances of taking second. I'm not one for tempting fate but we're not badly placed :)

Stevenage 0 - 0 Wolves

40 games, 87 points = 2.18 ppg

Averaged over a season - 100 points (rounded down).

1) Wolves - 2.18ppg
2) Brentford - 2.08ppg (played one game less)
3) Orient - 1.9ppg
4) Rotherham - 1.92ppg (played one game less)
5) Preston - 1.88ppg

To mathematically guarantee promotion (97 points) we need 10 points from the final 6 games = 1.66ppg. 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats would do it.

Reasonable result from Bramall Lane too as Brentford fail to win.

Wolves 2 - 0 Peterborough United

41 games, 90 points = 2.20 ppg

Averaged over a season - 101 points (rounded up).

1) Wolves - 2.20ppg
2) Brentford - 2.1ppg (played one game less)
3) Rotherham - 1.95ppg (played one game less)
4) Orient - 1.88ppg
5) Preston - 1.85ppg

To mathematically guarantee promotion (97 points) we need 7 points from the final 5 games = 1.4ppg. 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats would do it.

Great set of results all around, shame about Rotherham turning it around.

EDIT: Midweek update as from now on in (other than Rotherham's Friday game), there should be no more games in hand anywhere.

1) Wolves - 2.20ppg
2) Brentford - 2.12ppg
3) Rotherham - 1.90ppg
4) Orient - 1.88ppg
5) Preston - 1.85ppg

To guarantee promotion, we now need 4 points from 5 games = 0.8ppg. I should think that's doable :) We'll see where we end up at the end of the season, but barring a miracle run from one of the also rans, 92 points = 2ppg will guarantee promotion for the top two.

To guarantee the title, we need 13 points from 5 games = 2.6ppg - 4 wins and a draw would do that, although realistically goal difference makes it 12 points required.

Crewe Alexandra 0 - 2 Wolves

42 games, 93 points = 2.21 ppg

Averaged over a season - 102 points (rounded up).

1) Wolves - 2.21ppg
2) Brentford - 2.07ppg
3) Orient - 1.90ppg

We're up! Also, we cannot finish below 2.02ppg (thread title point proved).

To guarantee the title, we need 7 points from 4 games = 1.75ppg - 2 wins, a draw and a loss would do that, although realistically goal difference makes it 6 points required.

Wolves 6 - 4 Rotherham United

43 games, 96 points = 2.23 ppg

Averaged over a season - 103 points (rounded up).

1) Wolves - 2.23ppg
2) Brentford - 2.09ppg

Brentford up too.

To guarantee the title, we need 4 points from 3 games = 1.33ppg - a win, a draw and a loss. Realistically we only need one win due to GD.

I'd hate to be whoever's facing Rotherham in the play offs.

Leyton Orient 1 - 3 Wolves

44 games, 99 points = 2.25 ppg

Averaged over a season - 104 points (rounded up).

1) Wolves - 2.25ppg
2) Brentford - 2.07ppg

Kenny's stated he wants the divisional record - based on our average PPG we should manage it comfortably. I'm signing off on this thread for this season, let's hope for more of the same next season :)

For reference:

If we lose the next two = 2.15ppg
Win and a draw = 2.24ppg
Win both = 2.28ppg
