I can certainly remember them in League One or whatever it was called in those days. Circa early/mid 90's, can't be bothered to look it up.Surprised at the reaction on here, and the idea that Blues have been done over in recent years by a lack of ambition/backing from the owners, which is not the case.
It's similar to Sheffield Wednesday, there's a myth that there owner is a disgrace, when he's been done by the system. They're paying for bad decisions, but they, like Blues, decided to spend money they shouldn't have.
And, despite all this, Blues still haven't fallen as far as we did (League One), so they've done well to create this idea that they deserve sympathy.
I must be in the minority, but I'll find it really funny if they do go down, just like I'll find it funny if/when Albion go down. And, like Blues, I would love us to play a part in doing that to them on May 1st, although it might be a sombre mood on here if we do relegate them going by this. After all, Albion have a bad owner as well, poor souls...
Seem to remember them being in a last day relegation battle with Albion. 93/94 maybe. They lost, Albion stayed up, helped by the standard six points we gave them that yearI can certainly remember them in League One or whatever it was called in those days. Bloody fence sitter.....**** blues, **** their fans. Couldn't give a **** about the ****ers. Hope they rot in the basement for the next 100 years.
I can its Blues **** em.....its hilarious
Sounds like you got lucky there mate and l understand your feelings. As a kid l did Wolves and Salop with my old man.Puts me in a funny place this one , as a 12,,13,,14 year old it was my second most visited ground St. Andrews , my mom divorced my dad and married a brummie , he took on us 3kids and treated us wonderfully and still does today , he would take to me to mol on a Saturday and St. Andrews when wolves were away , he was a season ticket holder for 17 years , I watched kenny burns , Bob latchford , Trevor Francis and the argentine full back Alberto tarrantini, as a kid who loved football I suddenly found a great step father with the same views , so forgive me for not hating them
I’d have probably lit the fire to be honestAnd me
I would not p**** on them if they were on fire.
I took a huge amount of merciless carp from a Blues fan in the summer of 1986 when we didn't think we would have a club.
I was a young lad and he was a supervisor at work and he made my life hell for months
So, sorry I have an immense dislike for them - far more than Albion for me.
Cheers buddy , nothing replaces the wolves , but you , like myself probably couldn’t wait for a Saturday knowing one way or another you were gonna get that exciting buzz of a match day experience,Sounds like you got lucky there mate and l understand your feelings. I quite like Blues too. I was working in Brum 71-2, and went to St Andrews quite a few times. They had a good team and got promoted with Norwich IIRC. Always disliked Villa though. A bit poncey, with too many fans from Solihull, Sutton Coldfield and Stratford.Puts me in a funny place this one , as a 12,,13,,14 year old it was my second most visited ground St. Andrews , my mom divorced my dad and married a brummie , he took on us 3kids and treated us wonderfully and still does today , he would take to me to mol on a Saturday and St. Andrews when wolves were away , he was a season ticket holder for 17 years , I watched kenny burns , Bob latchford , Trevor Francis and the argentine full back Alberto tarrantini, as a kid who loved football I suddenly found a great step father with the same views , so forgive me for not hating them
Me too , would take blues over villa any day , just seem more down to earth working class sort , yes they got some proper morons , but ain’t most clubsI quite like Blues too. I don’t like them, but I did happen to be working in Brum for both the last minute great escape at their expense, and the championship title race.I quite like Blues too. Few around Redditch/Bromsgrove/Tamworth. Still probably more predominantly Villa though. What is blues catchment area other than Birmingham? You really don't see many Stafford Cannock rugeley Telford way, yet you still get villa and Albion.
Ever been to Anfield or Goodison? Makes Aston and Small Heath look like heaven!Worst clubs out there like Norwich and Reading. Sold a few decent players in recent years. Sullivan/Gold wanted a casino/stadium and may have stuck with them if they had granted the wish. Both the Blues and Villa groudns are in absolute ****holes. Amazed they never ground shared somehwere nice.

Not sure how true this is? Loads of estates around Erdington, Perry Barr area, by Jaguar works? Brums got estates all round it but less on the Solihull side. Stuck loads ~60000 people out in Chelmsley Wood which is a big council town which is supposedly Blues but probably more 50/50.Few around Redditch/Bromsgrove/Tamworth. Still probably more predominantly Villa though.
Nerd alert, but the Villa/Blues spread kind of ties in to post war development policies. During the 1930’s, Birmingham council did most of their slum clearances and estate building in the south of the city, they’d planned to do the north in the 1940’s, which got interrupted for obvious reasons. When the war was over, the policy had switched more to building new towns, so a lot of the population in North Birmingham ended up being moved out to the likes of Tamworth, Bromsgrove, Redditch, Leamington, even Northampton, etc. instead of the pre war policy of new estates being built in Birmingham, so you ended up with Blues support base largely still in the city, but Villa flung out more regionally.
Must agree. Worked with many who knew Blues were crap but supported them anyway.Known many people over the years who are Blues - sound as a pound.
I know what I used to call it, Burton.I can certainly remember them in League One or whatever it was called in those days. Circa early/mid 90's, can't be bothered to look it up.
Presumably not Birmingham, then...Both the Blues and Villa groudns are in absolute ****holes. Amazed they never ground shared somehwere nice.
It is a nasty away day for sure. Never forget the half-enders raining down on us and they'd won!One of the few grounds where you really have to keep your wits about you as an away Wolves fan. Looking back I cant believe that I used to travel to away games there on my todd aged about 11 or 12 onwards. Albion too but that was a walk in the park by comparison. Anybody remember Winners Matches discounts about 40p in? Mind you I was about 20 then.
