Not sure that's quite right. You're correct that Neves' book value is low (I'd guess no more than £2M or so) so the book value of Fati would be whatever cash we paid (£30M) plus Neves' book value.

Neves' perceived market value is irrelevant for the accounting process so I suspect Fati's book value would only be about £32M. If you amortise that over 5 years that's £6.4m per year which is a lot less than if you'd paid £70M cash.

Not bad if you get £70M-worth of player so on the face of it, not a bad deal but you are foregoing any cash revenue you would get from selling Neves on the open market.
I doubt they’d be treated as one transaction, we’d buy Fati for £70m and they’d buy Neves for £40m. The £40m would be contra’d accounting wise and payment terms on the remaining £30m agreed.

Juventus and Barcelona did exactly that a few years ago where they deliberately upped the values of both players for FFP purposes.

Even if they were treated as one transaction you’d still reasonably be allowed to account for each asset at its true market value, you wouldn’t be forced to net the two down. The key word is reasonable, obviously.

Got to be honest but I'm not sold on fati, quick and strong but he rarely delivers. Very much like an ex Barca winger we currently have on the books. For the reported "deal" of Ruben +€30M then that's a very very poor deal right now
have to agree, after all the initial fanfare...why are Barca prepared to let him go?

On 7 November, Fati suffered a knee injury against Real Betis and was subbed off at half-time; tests later confirmed that he tore the meniscus in his left knee.[33] Two days later he underwent surgery and the club announced that he would be out for approximately four months.[34] Unfortunately, he was out for 9 months — he started training after 9 months — ahead of the 2021–22 La Liga season.[35]

2021–22 season[edit]

Ahead of the 2021–22 season, Barcelona announced Fati would inherit the number 10 shirt from Lionel Messi. On 5 August 2021, Ansu Fati returned to training on the pitch at the Ciutat Esportiva after nine months out of action.[36] On 26 September, Fati made his first appearance after 323 days of absence in a 3–0 home victory against Levante. He came on as a substitute, playing for 10 minutes and scoring within minutes after coming on.[37][38] On 20 January 2022, he suffered a hamstring injury in a 3–2 defeat to Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey.[39] On 1 May, he returned after a three-month injury absence to play in a 2–1 win against Mallorca.[40]

And....we have enough of this lot already, doesn't know his best position..

A versatile forward, Fati is capable of playing in any attacking position; he started his career as a striker, although he was later moved to the position of left winger. Being adept with either foot, despite being naturally right-footed, he is also capable of playing on the right flank, in the centre as a false 9, as a second striker or number 11, or in a free role as an attacking midfielder or number 10

They have to make a ton of money so they can sign Messi.

Sounds like Guedes going to be on another season long loan to Benfica. On Spotrac he will be their highest wage earner if he stays. Suppose they hope he does well enough to sell on at the end of next season.

Wish we could just get shot of him permanently. He's used us for a pay rise and nothing more.

I'm sure the club do as well but with recent injury he hasn't played as much as they hoped.Benfica must have the money but know Guedes wants to play for them so they are in a strong bargaining position. Be good if the club could get an obligation to buy with set number of appearances etc. at least. Looks like he's on 90,000 pw so saving on wages at least.

Not sure if the link will work but just watched this and explains vividly Fati’s fall from grace in recent years. Would be a huge gamble to splash out a massive fee plus Ruben on him. If anything, the best for both parties would be a season long loan to give him first team football, get his confidence and fitness back up and then he returns to Barca as he blatantly doesn’t want to leave there. Either way a gamble and one that only JL can decide. Great watch though .

Thanks for sharing, all players unfortunately are becoming a gamble, very difficult for some to understand how difficult it is to acclimatise to the Premier league.

Absolutely mate…he obviously has high ambitions to make it at Barca which is understandable obviously. If we could get one season out of him at his best he would be a worldie signing but that’s down to the experts to decide…exciting non the less!

The barcelona fans talk about our club like we are a nothing club. I don't want to deal with barcelona as we always get a raw deal. They should be giving us money not the other way around in this neves/Fati swap deal.

Barcelona paid referees to get results. Their success is built on illegally funded state aid. They are corrupt, morally and financially bankrupt. They deserve no credit, and we should do them no more favours.

I just hope that the Fati rumour is just that no way is he worth 7m, not with his injury record. Probably nearer 700k.

Same, although Neves supposedly wants to go there so here’s what I hope happens:

- Barca continue to spend beyond their means assembling a good side

- we get a semi decent deal for Neves who goes there on a 5 year contract

- he bosses their midfield and finally gets the recognition he deserves winning everything there is to win

- they go in to receivership as Neves contract ends and he returns to us on a free playing out the remainder of his years at his absolute best for us (by now his beard is so full he looks like Pirlo in his latter Juventus years)

- he returns to Porto for his final season as player manager, winning the title and gaining experience ready to come back and manage his beloved Wolves
