He is a coaching manual coach.It comes back to him having a pre conceived idea without having the players to carry it out. If your keeper can’t kick you work around that until you get a keeper who can kick.
His philosophy and approach will be what ever the latest course tells him it is.
Seen hundreds of coaches like him…. Every season “this is how we are playing, it is what works” then they do the next FA course “scrap that, this is what works now”
Modern day coach education at the FA has a great deal to answer for!!!! It has sucked the creativity and almost maverick flair out of coaching on the whole and made it very methodical and by the book if you want to progress.
