"But McCarthy believes he could represent the best option in place of Stearman"

Dissapointing, I'd like to see Foley there. Give Zubar a chance at centre back, and play someone like Mendez-Laing on the right wing. $$$$ it play Halford at right wing, Foley out there isn't helping him, and it isn't really helping us either.

tis true its not as if we dont have options, jarvis left halford right, surman left jarvis right. saying this though i think zubar would be best as a midfielder as from what i have seen has good pace, can tackle and pass the ball.

I'll never know why he isn't in the team anyway.

Should those not be the minimum expectations in any position in the team?

being able to trap the ball and use both feet would also be nice too!

but back to zubar he seemed to have the right attributes for a decent midfielder when he was playing right back, didn't he used to play defensive midfield?

He was allegedly half decent at centre mid, its only since he has played in defence he has had a dodgy reputation.

Agreed. IMO oozes premier league quality and never overawed by the opposition.

From what I've seen he's two footed as well. Wouldn't mind seeing him there, there is that video of him scoring that screamer after advancing 20 yards.

Would like to see him given a runout at CH but know that wont happen. It would mean that our player of the year could play in his specialist position, and that will never happen either.
You can blame the wage capp or non abition in the transfer market, but ultimately the managers inability to consistantly play his strongest team will be our downfall.

If we play anymore players out of position this season from anything other than necessity then I really do fear for us and Mick.

Zubar is a $$$$ing centre back so play him at CB, not right back, not denfensive midfield at centre back. While I'm at it get Foley back to right back or on the bench FFS it's not hard you stubborn $$$$$.

Have any of you actually read the quotes? It looks to me like mick has him in mind for centre half

May be a decent centre half - don't know as not seen him play there in the PL, but not a right back, goals away at Everton, and Stoke proved that. Pen at Man U didn't exactly cover him in glory either.

According to Wiki he converted to a defender in the 07/08 season.

Replacing Stearman for the Palace game = Right back, if he wants him to replace Craddock or Mancienne/Berra for the Liverpool game like Mick suggested then he needs to play CB against Palace.

The question is do we need another DM in the squad who will give us no creativity or flair whatsoever or would we benefit more from having a quick powerful centre back who can maybe pass a ball to our midfield?

i reckon with his pace, strength and tackling ability and he definately has an eye for a pass he would be an ideal defensive midfielder able to move the ball away defence quickly

Great finish yesterday to get us out of trouble, Was annoyed He didn't get a chance at Centreback. I would guess now that MM doesn't see him as a centreback but as our 3rd choice right back behind Foley and Stearman..

I don't think Zubar would be bad in the right midfield slot. He's very eager to get forward, surely he'd be more dynamic there than Foley? Think he's a generally good footballer though, capable of playing in a few positions, doubt we'll see him again before the replay though

I dont like the thought of playing players out of position but it would of been like for like with Foley going back to his natural position. Whenever Zubar gets the ball he always looks to go forward so maybe they should have switched them. Does Mick not see Foley as a right back anymore???

Your probably right though, he wont play again untill the replay.

id play zubar defensive mid, which he started his career off as but most marsielle fans said he was ruined trying to turn him into a centre back from that position

Zubar was poor in the first half yesterday and improved in the second.

He needs a chance at centre half. Foley should be our right back, he wasn't player of the season for no reason last year in that position.

For me Zubar was MOM yesterday and should start on Tuesday but won't. Can we stop trying to fit Foley into the team as a right midfielder he his way out of his depth. Would be happier with Zubar and in fornt of him Jarvis for Tuesday

I agree but Foley needs a chance to prove himself in HIS position at right back.

We cannot just give up on him in that position without giving him a chance. He should be given the chance before Zubar imo.

Zubar should be give a chance at centre half.

Doesn't matter where Foley plays at the minute unless his passing improves. It was rubbish last Saturday. So yes to square pegs in square holes, but if they can't even pass then don't play at all. He gave the ball away 3 times in the first 20 last Saturday, dropping Stearman in trouble each time, by underweight passes each time. He could also do with having half of SEB's lunch as well.....

I may be wrong but my opinion is that Kevin Foley is a very good player, currently lacking in confidence because he is playing out of position and hence, this is affecting his performances on the pitch.

I would expect Foley's form to hugely improve if he was played in the right position.

I think that might be too much too ask. Perfect game to get him back in there but he continues to be played right midfield, killing his confidence and affecting his game. He is still young and learning and should be doing that at right back!!! I really am starting to get very impatient with all these players out of position.
