Well, you open a can of worms there.

When they did the large Express and Star poll two seasons ago, 52% said midfield was the area that needed upgrading, 31% said defence.

Nothing has changed in midfield since then.

I think the change to a 4 man defence makes sense but it desperately required changes in midfield to accompany that change.
It appears to me, that although reinforcements are incoming, there's no guarantee they will be in the most important areas. I can only hope the right players are coming, but in the wrong order.

In an ideal world a CB, CM and a ST would have been signed July 1st. Instead we've got a CB and hopefully a great player in Guedes (but in a position that didn't desperately need strengthening).

We'll probably sign a GK next.

I think the Nuno era was so special because of the tight relationship he had with a number of players.
Then comes a change of managers and of style , a style with which I dont think Coady felt comfortable .
And I believe Nuno did have his own conflicts with certain players towards the end. Thats just part of life .

Not my comment but Saiss' and was shared by Coady.

I've created this thread to discuss Lage's man management.

I mentioned before I thought Saiss leaving was strange.

I think he likely didn't get on with Lage or perhaps another member of the management team.

Hoever too clearly.

This isn't a go at Lage though, he should be backed to make his decisions.

Fergie was notoriously ruthless and Lage (who has referenced reading Fergies book before) is displaying the same traits.

Hope it pays off.
Gotta say I echo your post too. There’s been times when I’ve watched Saiss through my fingers over my eyes such a liability at times. Similar to Coady lots of fans have been accusing him of holding back our play, too slow etc I just hope and pray Bruno knows what he is doing and knows this squad can play his way.

Some may be reading to much into some of the comments Coady made about joining Everton, he was always going to say how fantastic it was to join and how exciting it would be to play under Frank Lampard (despite his managerial record) he leaves Wolves with his head held high and as a great leader.

This feels like a massive turning point in our recent history, last season even when doing well it felt like the ghost of Nuno was haunting Molineux with the negative football. Bruno has now removed a lot of Nunos players. We have now severed a lot of the old guard from Nunos days Saiss, Ruddy and Coady are all big personality who hold a lot of sway in the dressing room, The team needed refreshing and Bruno has now done this.

Two more players in a CM and a Forward and things will be a lot better.

It’s a loan, so if we change manager during the season, and the the new guy prefers 3 at the back, Coady would slot back in, particularly if the World Cup goes well. Options kept open. No bridges burned.

I think last season Lage was facing both a squad that had gone stale but also one who would have walked over hot coals for the previous boss and were suddenly facing a big change. I think it was inevitable that some of the big personalities would move on as Bruno needs people who believe in his project. Would have been difficult for Coady, Saiss etc to switch mentality after spending so long with Nuno. Sounds weird if you've not experienced it but teams can really struggle with the change - happened after most of the recent "big" managers moved on, Ferguson, Wenger etc.

Probably part of why the club let Coady go so easily/cheaply and might also have been why our form dipped last season, players unconsciously showing frustration, affecting form etc.

I have a feeling that Lage and Coady didn't really believe in each other. Coady's body language at the end of last season was completely unlike him - the leadership had gone, the organisation had gone, the belief had gone. And Lage clearly doesn't see him as first choice in his preferred formation. Makes a parting inevitable. I've been amongst those who want to see Lage given a chance with a refreshed squad, to see what he's really capable of.

Yes, I just think Lage wanted to move to a back 4 and that was always going to have causalities. Both Saiss and Coady were back 5 specialists really, so logical that it’s them.

Of course Lage has also removed the excuses too. He lives or dies on his own efforts and results now.

I'd wager that Coady has a far more successful season than Lage.
One of them will remain in the Premier league and prove he shouldn't have been discarded........ The other person is Lage

Indeed for someone who can’t play in a two he’s doing a good job of playing in a two.

Yes because they’re all directly equivalent examples
There’s no difference is there? They have all signed players off us . Same as Everton signed Coady, so how’s it not an equivalent example.
Did Jota get cheered when he came on for Liverpool? Or is it selective cheering. Don’t get it myself, it’s a bit like pining over an ex partner.

Very early days of course but the league table right now suggests otherwise

But we won
If we had lost the war we would be talking German
... and bloody glad that we won l am!

I was surprised by Pod's goal. In real time from the NBU it looked like he scuffed it. It was actually a damned good, bloody cool, finish.

A two that isn't on it's 6 yard box all game.

This...
Also, problem wasnt just whether he could play in a 2, but whether he was a better choice in a back 4, than Kilman and Collins which I suggest he isnt. Lets not forget, Lage didnt think he couldnt be a decent backup player and come in to play in a back 4, when he needed. But Coady (understandably) wanted to go elsewhere where he'd start games.

Some things run deep. A respect for Coady , a dislike of Liverpool , and the fact we still have 32 matches to play.
I get the respect for Coady, although he did jump ship sharpish when his place was under threat. I get the dislike for LFC, but cheering him when he scored for a direct rival is weird. He’s gone a few of you need to stop crying and accept cos I guarantee he hasn’t once looked back since he left.

Who out of Collins & Kilman would you stop for Coady then?

Also if your happy to see us sit 10-15 yards deeper then you must of loved the last 2 seasons lol

If everyone on here had to put £x amount on a bet either way I'd be inclined to think most people would agree with my statement.
Yes we got 3 points today but it wasnt a convincing assured victory by any means.

Everton still haven't won a game and today was their first clean sheet (could have easily conceded 4 looking at highlight)

We'll see. I hope you're right. I hope Lage is very successful now he has HiS players in. Personally I see him being sacked by the world Cup at the latest....... Hope I'm wrong.
