Seems fair enough. I would expect Wolves to follow it up with a ban. A life ban, even if it was enforceable, seems a bit too much. I believe there should always be the chance of rehabilitation somehow. I do wonder if these things should be a Police matter but it is what it is.

However, I'll repeat what I said on another thread a few weeks ago. Wolves fans rightly condemned Bratislava fans for racist comments and it's right to condemn homophobic comments made by Wolves fans at Brighton, but thousands of Wolves fans sang a discriminatory song towards Daniel James because he is Welsh and absolutely nothing was said about it except for one journalist pointing it out online. I read the some of the replies saying it's banter and one person saying it was a 'right of passage' for the Welsh to be abused like it, but it doesn't seem right to me.

Where do you draw the line?

On another forum years ago one fan justified racial abuse by writinging "It's only words." It invited the reply: "In that case, you're a ****!" :D

Exactly, all of this is getting daft, context should be the key factor to all of this.

I presume this is the 'funny' 'we can see you holding hands' chant or stuff like that. I think anyone singing it would be odd because they should know better, but getting the police involved and life bans? Ffs.

It's a lazy stereotype that someone thinks is funny. Just like when we sing about the scousers and the other examples you have mentioned.

I watched Everton vs Chelsea on Saturday and note that Everton have been pulled up for singing 'Chelsea rent boys', as West Ham were last week. The Chelsea fans were singing 'Feed the scousers' but nothing on that.

As mentioned, it's the Welsh, Irish, Scottish etc. I bet foreign players are abused about their nationality at some point every game as well.

Not condoning it but, let’s be honest, songs and chants that have been seen as perfectly acceptable for years are now getting people bans. There is a world of difference between the disgraceful scenes at the etihad compared to accusing Brighton fans of being a bit fruity. (I’m assuming that’s what’s happened here) Think people should remember that before getting all high and mighty and calling for bans.

What you have demonstrated is that there's a significant number of fans from various clubs who are complete bonehead morons.

Yeah and the line is clearly drawn. Additionally, you don't have to be very bright to know where it's drawn.

OK keyboard warrior.

Lifetime bans for 'sign on sign on'
Lifetime bans for 'feed the scousers'
Lifetime bans for 'yam yam yam yam'
Lifetime bans for '10 german bombers'
Lifetime bans for 'chelsea rent boys'
Lifetime bans for 'build a bonfire'

A mate at work is from Wales, and very proud of it too. We also have a Chinese girl who's always asking about British culture and teaching herself the history.
She asked about Wales, so i told her that it's a remote, sparcely populated part of the UK, where the natives used to live in caves until they were domesticated by the English and set to work digging coal.
A couple of months later she very innocently asked Mike if anybody in Wales still lived in a cave? He came looking for me straight away. Now that's banter.

@clivewolves You draw the line when nothing can be said about anyone else - no-one can be offended by anything and no-one is allowed to have an opinion on anything and the prisons are full of people who have been locked up due to whatever "ism" is being focused on. We sit in silence and let out a brief whoop and a ripple of applause whenever a goal is scored. Then straight home after the game as prohibition is in place to eat a nutritious vegan meal before plugging ourselves into our alcoves to recharge overnight.

[Awaits backlash]

Perhaps, so why are these two getting done and others won't?
Simple answer: Because action was taken against them and not the others.

Simple question: Why wasn't action taken against the others?
Simple answer: I don't know!

Why wasn't the neanderthal at City escorted out of the ground yesterday when a steward was standing in front of him?
I don't know but the steward needs to be disciplined because the culprit certainly wasn't just putting his hands in his pockets. Anyway, the stadium cameras should be able to pick up his complete actions as they should have 100% surveillance like we do at Molineux..

Actually, I must apologise to anyone I have offended there. I have naively assumed your gender. You may well be a Dame.
I shall take myself off to the gulag forthwith.

You do know the answer! It's because people don't care about abusing Welsh, Scots, Irish, Scousers etc. but they suddenly care about homophobic 'abuse'. I say 'abuse' because I'm presuming that it was something as basic as 'We can see you holding hands' to a Brighton fan. Also, this is now national news (going along SSN as I type) because of the 'Rainbow campaign'.

Again, I don't think it's funny but to want people banned from the club they clearly love and spend a lot of money following because they sung that to a fan is ludicrous.

You say about Molineux, I've heard them say several times that they can see every seat through the surveillance. So, would you want THOUSANDS of people banned for singing about Liverpool when we play them? I presume you would.

This is so over the top.

"Being a bit fruity"... bloody hell. Racist chants were "perfectly acceptable" for years too in the eyes of many fans. Discrimination in any form, whether you agree with it or not, is illegal and should face strong punishment.

There is a segment of society that is just not moving with the times and this is reflected in fan bases.

There has been than enough publicity about equal rights in all sections of society for people to be informed of changing attitudes and what is acceptable. I thought in general that there was less inappropriate chanting than last year, but I still heard backward homophobic comments from at least one individual who was sat near me at the game.

It needs rooting out, along with racism and any other form of discrimination.

On a similar note I also thought Brighton's link up with the rainbow laces campaign was great yesterday from the display in the one stand and the club flag in the centre circle before kick off.

I’m not being funny but I’m unsure what we can say in life anymore so I don’t say anything even in joking context.

It’s like swansea fans were chanting “England is full of ****” vs albion - surely this is racist? But is allowed

My point is you have to draw the line somwhere else you will end up with a scenario mentioned above.

Genuine questions.....where would you draw these lines? What is acceptable to you? Where and how would you draw these lines and how do you justify that those lines are acceptable not only to you but everyone else? What makes your lines the ones that should be adopted?

As I said, genuine questions because I dont have the answers

These sort of people live in echo chambers where the limited number of people they speak to at any great length all share the same dated views and ideology; thus this thinking gets reinforced and they think it is perfectly normal and anyone who says otherwise is a spoil sport. The will also read the Daily Star and The Sun.

Lot's of things offensive to lot's of people. I read one Wolves' fan call another a **** on here yesterday just because someone (another Wolves' fan presumably) just happened to have a different opinion of our first half performance.
When half the stadium is singing '**** VAR' and millions of people can clearly hear this both live and on TV; should more be done to halt the 'offensive' language? The Liquidator was banned from Mol for using exactly the same 'offensive' language.
How sanitised should football become?
By the way, I'm not in any way condoning racist or homophobic behaviour, just outlining that other offensive language can easily be found.

I'm a very quiet spectator at football matches, mostly because I also attend cricket matches where the atmosphere is very different, and the comments subdued, but on one occasion at a football match when I was enraged by what happened on the field, I yelled loud and clear a comment that would get me a life ban today. I'm often disappointed when my opportunities to watch games live get ever more difficult, but as I can get annoyed it might be as well that I stay away.
Btw I noticed the other day a fan at the Etihad was being hunted not for saying anything but for doing something? What was that about, and how did a player notice him doing it whatever it was? Shouldn't he have been 100% focused on the game?
Where it's all going one can only guess, but it won't improve anything imho, it will more than likely backfire in the long run.
