Wow. No-one can complain that this year's competition is fading out with a whimper - after Contrarian set record-breaking standards last round, Evthewolf stepped up to the plate this weekend to match the season's best points haul of 47, and then to better it with an astonishing SIX correct scores. Ev slapped in four on Saturday and then another two today, doubling Tottenham, to collect 47 points from 11 of 15 fixtures, and a second Weekly Award of the year. This stunning result was 9 points clear of the nearest challenger, ChignalWolf, who hit 38 points - also from 11 fixtures - with 4 correct scores to reach his best individual total of the season.

Geowolf was in 3rd with 36 points and 3 correct scores, doubling Montpellier, with Zedkiel60 next on 35 points, also with 3 correct, and then Frank Lincoln with 32 points and 4 correct scores, the only player outside Ev and Chignal to hit that marker. The other players with 3 correct were MelbourneWolf, Miniwolf, Wolf In Wednesbury and reigning champion (for two more weeks) Blast Tyrant.

Special Mentions of the Week go to Evthewolf for a spectacular 4-2 call on Man City over Palace, and ChignalWolf for the 0-0 in the Reims-Nice game.

With 74 points and 6 correct scores over the past two rounds, Geowolf is proving to be Top Lemon at present, utilising consistency to edge ahead of Evthewolf and Contrarian with their 47 point winning weeks. SingYourHeartsOut is putting in a stormer of a Cup as well, showing that it's not all about the goals.

5 points. After 30 rounds, that's where we are - 5 points between first and second. There are going to be beads of lilac sweat on the brow as Purplepault69 - whilst still in pole position - posted a bottom 5 week with just 16 points, but he'll be breathing a massive sigh of relief that rivals Chris H, Huge Of Sharjah and Contrarian all stuttered in similar fashion. The beneficiaries, then, are Giantwolf - reducing the deficit from 11 points to 5, the width of a single correct score - and Evthewolf, who sweeps in from 56 points behind just 48 hours ago to merely 25. When you carve 31 points out of the leader in one week you can't help but have hope, but has Ev left it too late? Wonder Boyo has left his lunge for the top 10 very late but with a fourth consecutive week of hitting a 10-pointer (15 across the season) he's now up to 7th. Baboon, Jrpb-3 and CelebrityWolf are in that Top 10 by their fingertips, 10 points clear of a hungry Wolf In Wednesbury, WolvesAndCows and Ewok Vs Wolf - can one of them snatch a place in the end-of-year Cup?

Fun fact - if Evthewolf hits 6 correct scores in each of the last two weeks, and Purplepault69 gets none, a veritable miracle will have occurred. Most likely, however, is that a small clutch of players should be setting themselves a personal challenge of reaching the 50 mark with the two remaining rounds.

This round saw two 6-goal smashers and and four 4-goal hauls, mixed with a 0-0 and three 1-0s, a perfect blend for a dramatic week. OldGold53 entered right on the wire (I almost missed it!) and picked four selections, so the final one (Liverpool v Man Utd) was skipped, but in the end it didn't matter as he still finished top, one of three players along with ChignalWolf and Baboon to be on both the 6ers. OldGold, Jrpb-3 and Contrarian all finished on 14 points, with Gold on +15 and -1. SuperGran was the only player unlucky enough to choose a 6 goal game as her minus.

SingYourHeartsOut has indeed hauled himself up the ropes and taken a final swing at Slugger SuziQ. Sing posted 12 points, Suzi chugged a 7, and that means the top two positions shift again with Sing back into the lead by 4. Bigcheese hit 11 and Purplepault69 got 12, keeping them in solid contention, and 12 for Baboon sees him with an outside chance, along with WolvesAndCows who slipped a little but remains in the frame for the title. A missed week for last round's star Iamthenewno2 sees him fall away.

Not sure how I keep managing it but the better my main predictions are the worse I seem to do on goals galore and vice Versa, A good week in goals galore for once, but below average elsewhere, I could have done with it being the other way round. Just hoping not to snatch defeat from the Jaws of victory over the last few weeks and keep my place in the top 10

What a **** week!

Genuinely don’t know how I’m so close to the top without winning a week, undecided if I should be pleased with my consistency (this week aside) or annoyed that I couldn’t put it all together for just one weekly win.

Prediction League Title Run-In

With two rounds left to play, it seems a safe bet that the champion will be one of the current top five - so here are the contenders.

Purplepault69 (761 points, 55 correct scores)
Competition leader for much of the second half of the season, The Purple One has four Weekly Awards to his name, collected over a period of 11 rounds from Weeks 14 to 24 - impressive when you consider that only six other players (Ade123, Contrarian, Evthewolf, Giantwolf, Wolf In The North and Wonder Boyo) have won more than once all year, with two apiece. He's also hit 55 correct scores, six more than his nearest rival, and won the Tangerine Cup. He has, however, hit a slightly dry spell since achieving his Tangerine dream, with only 5 correct in the past 4 weeks, and just one 30+ point haul in 6 weeks, giving his rivals hope. Nevertheless, he remains the most impressive player, and the one to beat.

Giantwolf (756 points, 45 correct scores)
Fourth place in Season One, seventh in Season Two, Giant has really hit his stride this year. He has ten 30+ points weeks, unmatched by any other player, and is one of only two players (Evthewolf is the other) to have hit 40+ points twice. He has two Weekly Awards, but most impressively won the Banana Cup outright and was joint top in points scored in both the Plum and Cantaloupe Cups. He's also the player in form, with three 30+ scores in the past five weeks, and has carved 50 points out of Purple's lead over the past 10 weeks, leaving him just 5 points in arrears.

Chris H (745 points, 45 correct scores)
Seventh and sixth in the past two seasons, Chris has done well to give himself a title shot given that - as he himself noted yesterday - he hasn't won a Weekly Award yet this year. The stats are misleading, however, as even though he's only posted seven 30+ points rounds, he's hit 29 on five other occasions, and no other player has reached the 29 point mark more than those twelve times. He also won the Strawberry and Cantaloupe Cups, and was on a storming run of form up until this weekend, where a blip has left him with 16 points to make up on the leader.

Contrarian (739 points, 49 correct scores)
A 47 point haul in week 29 was the best of the season (for all of 48 hours until matched by Evthewolf), and earned a second Weekly Award, to sit alongside success in the Apricot Cup. The Contrary One has also posted eight 30+ points rounds, and his 49 correct scores are currently the second best showing of the year. However, it's likely that a 22 point deficit is just too much to claw back; 22 points is the exact number that he's made up on Purplepault69 in the last 10 weeks, and it's asking a lot to match that in the remaining two. But nothing can be ruled out.

Evthewolf (736 points, 45 correct scores)
Effervescent Ev debuted in the competition last year, finishing 4th, and is on course to match or improve on that this time around with two Weekly Awards inside the last six rounds, two 40+ points weeks (including yesterday's 47, matching the best haul of the season), and qualification for the Fruit Bowl by winning the Plum Cup. 25 points is probably too much to make up on the leader, as it's taken 10 weeks for Ev to carve out 40 points from Purple - but then 31 of those points came this weekend alone, so, who knows?

The Top 10 Contenders

Huge Of Sharjah (726 points, 40 correct scores)
led the competition for awhile throughout the winter weeks, but then went 19 rounds without posting a 30+ points week and has only recently returned to form. However, it's been a brilliant season for the Motown Maestro, and top 5 is still up for grabs to improve upon last year's 8th.

Wonder Boyo (716 points, 35 correct scores) finished second in each of the last two seasons and has 8 career Weekly Awards to his name (tied with Wolf In The North - I won't let you get away!). 15 of his 35 correct scores have come adorned with an asterisk, and no one else comes close. He's also qualified for the Fruit Bowl through the Cantaloupe Cup. The most in-form player outside the top 5, he just left it too late, sadly.

Baboon (711 points, 42 correct scores) has blown hot and cold this year, with eight 30+ points rounds but no Weekly Awards to add to his four from previous years. This would be his first Top 10 finish if he can hold on.

Jrpb-3 (710 points, 47 correct scores) will be disappointed how the season has petered out after an early Weekly Award in round 7, and 47 correct scores (11 doubled) is superb, but it's now all about consolidating and qualifying for the Top 10 Cup.

Celebrity Wolf (710 points, 41 correct scores) is a free spirit, either posting 30+ point scores (eight this season, three in the last six rounds) or sub-20 point ones, so is in a highly precarious position in 10th place.

Wolf In Wednesbury (700 points, 42 correct scores) finished third last year with 4 Weekly Awards, but this year has been more fallow, with none so far. He went to Prague and took his eye off the ball, slipping out of the Top 10, but 6 correct scores in the last two weeks suggest he could have something left in the tank.

WolvesAndCows (700 points, 39 correct scores) is enjoying a fine debut season, and Top 10 remains within reach, if he isn't distracted by Goals Galore. Cows is currently enjoying the longest streak of consecutive weeks with at least one correct score, at 12.

Ewok Vs Wolf (698 points, 46 correct scores) can submit rather eccentric predictions at times, but it's absolutely effective - fourth best for correct scores this year - and he has been in and around the Top 10 all season. You wouldn't bet against him.

Goals Galore Title Run-In

With two weeks to go, an estimated six players have a realistic chance of taking the title - who will emerge triumphant? Here are the contenders.

SingYourHeartsOut (248 points) has been GG Top for the vast majority of the season, and has won 3 weeks, including the first. His success has been built on a superb eye for a low minus score, currently sitting at -60, a neat average of -2 per week, the best on the list. At one point he was so far clear it seemed impossible he could be caught, but he's been hauled back over the last couple of months. Can Sing see out two final weeks, or will he be CryYourHeartsOut for the summer?

SuziQ (244 points) has emerged as Sing's prime challenger in the last few weeks - 50 points in the past 6 weeks, bettered only by Baboon and Contrarian - but overall has only topped a weekly result once all season. A +320 score is the second best on the list, however, and it will be intriguing to see if a crucial plus pick can outmanoeuvre Sing's minus magic at the final hurdle.

Bigcheese (243 points) is the dark cheddar in the race, matching Sing's high of 3 weekly successes and being top plus scorer with 321. It's a -78 that's let Cheese down - it's the worst score of all the top 10 players - and over the last 6 weeks he's only recorded 34 points, the least of all the top 20 aside from Don Corleone, who missed a week. If he can pick himself up and neck some Peroni, he still has a chance to reverse his fortunes.

Purplepault69 (240 points) leads the Prediction League and is the only player capable of doing the double, but has only one weekly success in this game and at -76 has the second lowest minus score in the top 10. Purple is going to need the stars to align in both competitions, although I'm sure he's not greedy and will be happy with just the one triumph, right?

WolvesAndCows (238 points) has been top 5 at least in this game for almost all the season, but has never won a week and has only taken 22 points from the last 4 rounds, which could well gave scuppered his chances of glory. Somehow, however, he's still in there, and all it will take is two spectacular weeks to finish on a high.

Baboon (237 points) has taken his time getting involved in the title race, but has averaged 9 points per week for the past 6 weeks, bettered only by Contrarian, and has the second best minus score on the list (of those players who have played every week) at -66. He's won 2 weeks and will probably need to win 2 more for a chance, but he'll have top 4 in his sights now.
