Welcome to Season Three of the Weekend Prediction League! You bloody masochists. If you're new to the scene, or simply want to relive the horrors of last year, you can find the thread here. Our reigning Champion is the brutal Blast Tyrant: boo him at your leisure, he cares not.

THE RULES

Every Tuesday, or thereabouts, I will post a list of 15 specific fixtures for the upcoming weekend - always Saturday and Sunday only, none of this Friday or Monday night malarkey, taken from the Premier League and other top European leagues. Or sometimes Scotland.

Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to predict the scores of those 15 matches (and the easiest way to do this is to just copy-and-paste or quote my fixtures post and fill in your scores). You earn 5 points for each perfectly correct scoreline, 2 points for each correct result but wrong scoreline, and 0 points for every game you make a complete hash of.

ASTERISKS

Each week you get 3 asterisks, to allocate to 3 of the 15 fixtures of your choosing. Asterisks earn double points - so, 10 for a perfectly correct scoreline or 4 for a correct result but wrong score.

MRS SPOON

After abject failure last season, Mr Spoon has retired in shame. This year, Mrs Spoon will take her spoony spouse's spot - she will predict 1-0 home wins for every fixture, and her asterisks will be allocated to the final 3 fixtures of each weekly list. 1-0 is the new 1-1.

NEW RULES AND CLARIFICATIONS FOR THIS YEAR

If you forget your asterisks, or simply can't be bothered, they will automatically be allocated to the first three fixtures on the list. This will henceforth be known as the ChignalWolf rule.

This season, there is no deadline for submitting fixtures. You can enter as late as you want, you just can't place a prediction for any game that's kicked off. So, even if you sleep through your entire Saturday after spending Friday night drunk on the floor of a Korean Karaoke Bar in Finsbury Park, and you miss Saturday's games, you can still join in late and submit for Sunday, asterisks included.

Any Cup or Play-Off games included in the 15 fixtures are "Normal Time" scores only, no extra time included. So don't predict a penalty shoot-out.

This season, in the overall points table, if two or more players are equal on points, "Most Correct Scores" comes into play like Goal Difference, so be aware! If players are still inseparable, there will be naked wrestling in whipped cream. Not for any systematic purpose, just because.

NEW COMPETITIONS

This is the Big One!

This season's Prediction League will run for exactly 32 weeks. As well as the regular Hall Of Fame for weekly winners, those 32 weeks will be divided into 8 blocks of 4 weeks, each of which will be designated as a fruit-themed Cup. Yes, fruit. The first one is Banana. Go with it. At the end of the season there will be TWO small, exclusive competitions - The Fruit Bowl (see?) will be our version of the Cup-Winners-Cup, where the winners of those 8 4-weekly cups will be invited to compete (if a player wins more than one Cup, then the second-place player of each subsequent triumph will get that spot instead). There will also be The Top 10 Challenge, where the 10 top players of the season get to face off for one final trophy, giving everyone more to play for as we reach the final stages of our marathon mission.

ALSO!

This year sees the debut of a sister competition, separate to the main Prediction League, named Goals Galore! Each set of 15 fixtures will be numbered each week, so after your predictions reply post, please list FOUR of those numbers. The first three of these matches will score you 1 point per goal scored in these fixtures, BUT the fourth match will score you -1 point per goal scored! So choose wisely, and remember that the number you place last is the one you DON'T expect to see goals in (insert obligatory Wolves joke here).

Reminder - these points do NOT contribute to the Prediction League, it will be a separate Leaderboard game that will be listed in the results post each week.
