"Ruben, Wolves were pretty awful yesterday, and at one point you were aimlessly chasing Wilfred Zaha around the pitch like Wile E. Coyote after the Road Runner. How do you respond to accusations that you're spending far too much time siring progeny and pursuing glory in the Prediction League instead of pinging them in from 30 yards and trying to play three different positions in midfield by yourself? Ruben...?"

As week 23 of the League draws to a close, with precious little for Wolves fans to be delighted about, there is some joy at least for nimble NevesWolf, who becomes our nineteenth different weekly champion. With 33 points he equals his best ever week, and although only hitting one correct score there was remarkable consistency in scoring points in 12 of 15 matches, and getting 4 points from each of his three asterisks. Giantwolf and Lonewolf collected 31 points each, the latter with two correct scores, one doubled, but Wolf In Essex, SuziQ and Autistic Kangaroo were the only other players to get two scores in an incredibly difficult week. Blast Tyrant, Huge Of Sharjah and Nige100 all scored points in 5 from 5 on Sunday, but it was the correct scores that proved the collective downfall. When you consider that 10 players got Fulham 2-0 correct in the opening game on Saturday, four of those doubled, it seemed to be setting the stage for a bumper week... but such is life.

NevesWolf's win sees him up to 18th place, and he's one of those half dozen players who might be in touching distance of the top ten if not for unfortunately missing a week along the way. Frank Lincoln had a tough week, and Blast Tyrant is back within 9 points of him at the top of the table. SG Wolves remains third, and the top three are beginning to put some distance between themselves and the chasing pack; Wonder Boyo, Contrarian and Oh When The Wolves need a wonder week at some point to claw back the deficit. Giantwolf edges back towards the top ten.

In the world of predictions I think you can prepare too much. In the early weeks when I was flying high at the top of the league I just used to vibe out my predictions. As I became more competitive I started to look at Ligue 1 form tables, the average home goals per game Mallorca were scoring, Empoli's pre-match injury news, how many injury time goals Arminia Bielefeld scored in away games against bottom half Bundesliga sides, and the form of Elche after each international break. I started falling down the table, The penny has just dropped, over preparing is the enemy! Back to vibing it next week. I'll be in Bruno's bad books and probably pull a hammy at 3.10pm on Saturday.
