Villa have been awful. 4th in the PL…ridiculous!
Similar to when Leicester won the title, with every single rival having a stinking season - including Spurs again.

Man United, Spurs, Newcastle, Brighton have all fallen apart at just the right time for Villa.

If you listen to the comms you would think that Villa have just been extremely unfortunate. Very tired, loads of injuries. Of course Olympiacos famously don’t have any league or cup games to play, just the conference league. And they are supported by the Greek gods so don’t pick up injuries. Villa never stood a chance.

At least they get to watch a European final the weekend, Eurovision is on!

What makes Leverkusen's story even more special is that they're a simple, ordinary club. If Real Madrid or PSG or Man City did it, it would be admirable but not a fairytale. Leverkusen striking gold gives hope to every club out there that miracles are possible and that their time might come. Aside from rivals in Germany, no one has any ill will or cynicism against them.

At a time when VAR and money are slitting football's throat, it's a perfect, genuinely heartwarming riposte.

The comms said Leverkusen has a population comparable to Slough...

They're similar to Wolves in a lot of aspects. Small-ish city compared to most of their rivals but countered a little by being part of a huge metropolitan area. Their stadium capacity and average attendances are around what Wolves get too.

They also have a special dispensation re: Bayer and their ownership (it's basically a Bayer company town I believe).

For this reason, I think some German purists take some issue. But whatever, those fans deserve this imo.

Sorry Lucy Ward, but throwing a couple of kids on when you’re 6-2 down with 5 minutes to go is not “a great show of faith in the academy”. She’s been very pro-Villa all night.
Had to turn the sound down.could not listen to her going on how great Villa are !

Leverkusen’s late heroics to grab a draw on the night and a 4-2 aggregate win, now makes 49 games unbeaten the longest run in European history, beating Benfica’s 48 between 1963-1965.

Hope they win there final 4 games and make it 53 games and a Invincible Treble!
