Terribly sad news at the weekend when 13 year old Samuel Akwasi collapsed during a game in the Young Elizabethan League in Nottingham. The boy had suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch, and despite the efforts of people present, and the use of a defibrillator, Samuel very sadly passed away. It must be heartbreaking for his family to lose someone so young. He left home to play the game he loved, and never returned home.

R.I.P. Samuel.

Oh my god, terrible. That poor family, they must be absolutely devastated. Can’t imagine their pain and sadness.

Every now and again I read stories like this…..young athletes, in their prime, collapse from heart issues.

Absolutely awful news and possibly the worst news a family could receive.

Rest in peace young man.

Ive seen a few of these stories. My 6 year old trains twice a week and plays two matches on a Sunday plus cricket on a Friday. I do wonder wether it’s too much but surely there must have been a defect in the heart and it’s just a lottery, would the football have caused it or would it of happened anyway at some point? I suppose we’ll never know. Absolutely heart breaking and worrying at the same time.
