I know there are a few of teams who have done back to back relegations & conversely a few back to back promotions.
But does any one know of a team who's done back to back relegation directly followed by back to back promotions??

Would be one hell of a yo-yo lol

I don't remember anything in English football in my lifetime - but I think its happened in Scotland recently.

Northampton Town took 5 seasons to get from the 4th. to the 1st. Division back in the '60's and then the same number of seasons to get back to the 4th. if I'm not mistaken.

We possibly went the closest to doing just that in the 80s !
Relegated 1984/85 from old Second Division, then down again from Div 3 1985/86

Lost in play off final 1986/87 ( one if not the worse defeat ever for me !)

Promoted 1987/88 and then again 1988/89

If we are promoted next season we would have gone from the Premiership back to the Premiership in 3 years, leaving it in May 2012 and back in it again May 2015 (we might even do it in less than 3 years if we achieved promotion by April 2015).

Oldwulf, I'll just stop you at the end of the bit in bold... :D

Swansea did a Northampton of sorts in the 80s.

Promoted Div 2 to Div 1 1980/81 One season Division One 1981/82 Relegated 1982/83 Div 1 to Div 2, Relegated Div 2 to Div 3 1983/84, one season Div 3 84/85, Relegated Div 3 to Div 4 1985/86

They must have been bad in 85/86 as they finished 24 below Wolves who were 23 !

I recently asked this question in another thread and from memory someone mentioned they thought Ipswich had done it before.:confused:

Back in the 70's didn't Carlisle United go from fourth division to first and back down to fourth again?

Wimbledon and Northampton were both promoted from Div 4 and then Div 3 before spending 2 seasons in Div 2 before being promoted, I think Northampton went down just as quickly as did Swansea
