Always remember a quote my uncle used to say, which he credited to John Wayne " lifes tough, but its even tougher when your stupid".
Anybody heard/shed some light on it?

Saturday Night Fever, which I watched again recently.
Travolta's having a coffee with his pretentious dance partner who's always bragging about which celebrities she's met.

Her: You don't know who he is? Laurence Olivier man! He's the greatest actor in the whole world. Oh come on, you know who he is. He's the English actor, the one on television who does all those Polaroid commercials.

Him: Yeah? Do you think that you could get, like, a camera from him at like a discount?

Thank you Sir Jack

Pagey, a site called Quote Investigator does give an instance of Wayne having used the phrase, (so your uncle was correct),but it also cites a number of others who used it, including Robert Mitchum. Credit for first use is given to George V Higgins in his 1971 novel "The friends of Eddie Coyle".

John Hammond: All major theme parks have delays. When they opened Disneyland in 1956, nothing worked
Ian Malcom-Yeah, but, John, if The Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists.

Oh and THAT speech at the end of Blade Runner

Casino was great, the acting sensational. Sharon Stone's portrayal memorable.

Casino, possibly my favourite film of all time.

As we're approaching the festive season I thought it would be remiss of me not to mention one of my favourite film lines of all time. It's from Home Alone 2!

That Macaulay Culkin kid has just run off from perennial losers and terrible burglars Harry and Marv. Harry and Marv are standing with their ears to a locked door listening to a loud crashing noise:

Harry: What's that sound?

Louder crashing noises, the door comes off the hinges and crushes them both against a wall. They both push the door away.

Marv: That was the sound of a tool chest falling down the stairs.

This is true. Also the scene where pauli slaps him (when telling him to keep away from drugs) wasn’t in the script. You can see from the shock on liotas face!
In the movie Alien,at the breakfast scene, the actor and director did not inform the other actors that the baby alien was going to burst out of the guy’s chest.....all for effect.
Great directors are great for a reason.

From First Blood

" I could have killed them all, I could have killed you. In town you are the law out here it is me. Don't push it or I will give you a war like you will not believe, let it go let it go "

The scene in which Rambo picks off the police officers one by one in the forest is for me a superb piece of action.

From the Enforcer

Harry Callahan " Personnel, that is for assholes "

Captain Mackay " I was in personnel for ten years "

Harry Callahan " Yeah "

Another classic exchange

Mackay " The minority community have had enough of this sort of policing "

Callahan " By the minority community I suppose you are talking about the hoods ! "

"Don't argue with the big dog, the big dog is always right" Tommy Lee Jones in the Fugitive when one of his subordinates dares to question him.

Tommy Lee Jones fully deserved his best supporting actor Oscar for that role in the Fugitive which is in my opinion a superb film.

Love that film. Another ad Lib was the very young cavalry officer (played by Patrick Wayne) talking to Ethan (John Wayne)

Ethan “Turn around son”

“Yeah, he’s a Yankee cavalryman alright”

Later on when young officer draws his sabre:

“Son, mind that knife”

One of my favourite actors is Gene Hackman but I can’t remember any of his lines that are really quotable.
Anyone?.....help an old man and his rapidly failing memory....lol.

When we were young, if any of the lads got rejected by a bird in a club, we would quote Metropolis (if you can quote a silent film). The scene where Freder is sacked by his father. The caption simply says...

“You’re dismissed”

Not from a film, but an interview with one of my soldiers when we were on the Canberra heading for the Falklands

Brian Hanrahan “What is special about the parachute regiment Private Gray”

Gray “ Well Brian , we may beat up your Dad and crap on your carpet, but the beating and crapping will be of the highest standards “

That one hit the cutting room floor

@topcat99 - I remember to this day Hanrahans famous quote from the war “I'm not allowed to say how many planes joined the raid, but I counted them all out and I counted them all back”
