How good would it be if the premier league introduced playoffs for the final European place …
Teams 7th-10th play a championship style playoff system to decide the final place, this would not only keep most teams seasons alive for most of the season , be it fighting relegation, trying to get In those playoffs or trying to finish high enough to avoid them but would also give fans of lesser clubs the hope they can achieve something rather than the regular nothingness of just staying in the league and making up the numbers … Nine seasons out of 10 we know who the top 6 will be and probably top 7 now Newcastle have joined the party , the rest of us are just there to make up the numbers and exist apart from the odd flash in the pan …

Sorry mate but that is not a great or fair thing, it is unfair in the football league with promotion let alone how it decides the premiership winner in rugby……

Can we stop americanising English football!!

why can’t a team get their reward for being the 7th best team over a league campaign in your scenario?

Because the league is ****in boring , take last season for instance , we were rock bottom at Xmas but still our season was dead with 6 games to go , the season before was the same and the season before that , it’s the reason teams near the bottom start getting shock wins towards the end because half the teams they are playing have lost that competitive edge …

The European race is normally still going to the penultimate weekend.

We were involved in a day where the league was being decided on the last day in the other fixture involving city.

We missed out in the second season on the last day….

Not the leagues fault we are **** now……

The champions league race and Europa race is exciting most years.

Personally prefer the relegation play-offs 18th PL plus 3rd, 4th and 5th in Championship.

5th gets champions league this season mate due to the extra coefficient place for the prem
Technically, it's been revised since yhe original plans. If I've read correctly it'll be based on coefficient on this season's performance of English clubs in UEFA competitions.

Therefore Newcastle and co. should be crossing everything, that Villa, West Ham etc. go as far as they can in their tournaments.

Should think England is still odds-on for an extra place either way though.

Make things really fun, let the club relegated bottomnof the league pick which of the champions league qualifiers, excluding whoever wins the league, they are to play in an attempt to take their place in the champions league (they still get relegated if they win).

Sorry but I think that’s a terrible idea.

Besides I think usually the 7th euro spot (conference league) goes to the league cup winners…. So that can be considered your (giant) play off….

What about a cup without any clubs featuring in European football?

Bottom 13 from prem, all champ, all league one, all league 2. All non league clubs.

Like second best to fa cup.

The idea is to give someone else a chance of winning something

Not for me. The laughably called Champion's League has already been devalued enough by bringing in teams that aren't champions of their respective leagues. Similarly, the daft Europa League, Europa Conference Leagues etc....
In my opinion, clubs wanting to compete in such competitions, should improve enough to qualify by right, not just make it easier for 'lesser clubs'. Otherwise, why not a b-level FA Cup, lesser League Cup etc.. so that the **** sides can win something?
Improve to the level required, not lower the entry requirements!
