Surely this is the clearest winner we’ll have had in years.

1. Neves. Captain Fantastic. Oozes class, commitment and passion. Absolutely miles ahead of everyone else.

2. Dawson. Rock solid. Leader and a huge influence on those around him.

3. Kilman / Semedo. Both much improved under Lopetegui (and from playing next to Dawson).

None of our forward players have done enough to be in contention but honourable mention for Podence who came up with some crucial goals at vital times against relegation rivals.

Young Player of the Season: Bueno

Expecting big things from Nunes and Joao Gomes next season.

I agree with the top two and young player but Sorry mate how can you put semedo in the frame for player of the season?

He has been at fault for so many goals and is the side of the pitch that people constantly attack or put the crosses in that people score from most against us.

A player who is seen as the weak link and the targeted weak link, cannot be our best player or in contention. He was the weakest performer today and was their easiest route to getting chances or cheap free kicks.

I think you would put toti ahead of semedo on the player of the season stakes as he has had many better performances and has played multiple positions with great success and is playing himself into national team selection which the specialist full back in semedo cannot do.

Semedo is the new boo boy, and i firmly believe he gets a raw deal.

Tring is one of the most knowledgable people i’ve ever met about football and a decent player too, and i think he’s spot on

Neves and Dawson 100%.

Semedo? Would be one of the first I'd ship out, dreadful.

Neves as he's played well all season.

Very honourable mention to Craig Dawson, who is without a doubt the signing of the season.

Young player has to be Bueno.

Really don't want to derail the thread and have it turn into arguments about certain players but if anybody thinks Semedo was a 'weak link' today, they either watched the game with their eyes closed or they decided he was rubbish before the match started. Utter nonsense, pure and simple.

Raw deal?

He is shocking! I have never rated him and over his time he has never delivered on a consistent basis.

He cannot deliver a decent ball into the box and has scored I think only one goal, where Doherty trounced him in all these metrics.

For the fee we paid, he hasn’t come close to value for money.

To say nothing about constantly playing it back, our left backs are far more adventurous. Awful at crossing, and defensively he often has lapses or gets caught miles out of position.

Yeah, no contest really.

However, given that 75% of our points have come after the World Cup, we shouldn't underestimate the contributions made by Dawson and Lemina in lifting a team that couldn't buy a win.

My top three would be Neves, Dawson, Lemina.

If semedo came from S****horpe and we paid 2m for him….maybe. But….He cost an absolute fortune. Gets paid an absolute fortune. Came from Barcelona. He is not the player we thought we were getting. Average defender. And very average going forward.

watch the game again mate…..

how many silly fouls did he personally give away because he always trips over people or drags them down? 4 in the first half alone

How many chances came down his wing? Most…..

I counted 3 decent chances for villa that came from his lose passes or bad touch that caused quick counters.

Lemina was an excellent signing and I'd have him up there.

One of the left backs is a centre back!!!! Who also has delivered more quality crosses in a short time frame than nelson has……

Has to be Neves. Dawson has been great, but Neves was the only man in the team fighting and winning points for us over those first 15 games.

Dawson would be my player for this half of the season! He has been the calming influence that has helped transform our defence.

His game management and reading is top notch and that was shown to great extent today

Agree with much of that but Semedo should not be on that list. I think the only reason he’s been picked by Julen is due to our lack of replacements at right back. I fully expect him to be off loaded in the summer.

Think you also need to consider that all Villa's best attacking players drift left, Watkins, Buendia, Ramsey, and their LB was the attacking one whereas Young sat back. So naturally they attacked that side.

I thought he was strong, aggressive, and no real errors (admittedly a couple of dodgy passes). I don't remember him getting done, like say Toti did by Bailey and had to drag him down.

Wouldn't have him up near player of the season, but honestly think it's a good shout to say he's one of our most improved players under Julen.

But we can agree to disagree mate!

You won’t last long on here talking like that.

He’s gash, couldn’t defend against a five year old etc etc, repeat af nauseum

I try and stay out of Semedo threads!

Will be the same when Fabio comes back and doesn't score in his first game. Once you're considered no good, there's no consideration that improvement is possible, as people can't forget the shockers!

He got done a number of times, hence all the fouls in the first half.

With ball passed in behind him or into spaces he should have been much closer to throughout the game. He is so slow at turning and getting back, rarely shows urgency to get back into the defensive set up when the man/ball goes past him. The fulham goal was another big example of that.

Every team attacks us mostly down the right and most goals we concede come down the right and from crosses or cut backs from his side.

Hard to argue with this. Kilman has also been fantastic under JL too. Helped by how compact we play for sure, but still.

You also forget that toti pocketed traore so
Well and killed their options and success down the left in the first half so they had to sub his man to bring on Bailey.

So he gave away four fouls in the first half alone did he?

Disagree Tring. I think Dawson is POTS. If this was: who's out best player, then Neves wins hands down. POTS though for me has to go to Dawson. Neves runs him close but it's Dawson for me. Dawson has stepped in to a frail defence and immediately made us solid without that third man.

Fair enough, I thought he gave away a few more

But the rest of his game in regards to balls in behind and amount down his wing today isn’t inaccurate.

Look at his positioning and movement for the Watkins header at Sa….. it is very very poor

Neves - simple as that, goals, assists, captain marvel.

Yes Dawson (and Lemina) have made a big difference but only for half a season.

Presumably adding Semedo in there was a joke? A complete non entity of a player, he doesn't excel at anything at all defensively or in attack.

Neves wins for sure but honourable mentions to Dawson and Lemina.
