Yes but we were still short. And that was obvious. Two centre halves : Kilman and Collins. And one fit striker who was a huge risk and did his acl

So although we spent we managed to leave ourselves short. A huge risk. Relying on the only striker not getting injured (he did for season ) and both CH not getting injured /sent off. Collins did.

A real lack of depth.

The spend over three seasons is far too low and we haven’t solved the problems of an ageing squad, players peaking, no striker and minimal goals.

Spending so little for two seasons and then a bit this season isn’t enough and hence our issues. And in context out net spend this summer is average, over three seasons is low.

Also, say Matteus does have this release clause. If he’s here for one season that essentially means zero net spend at the end of it.

So underinvested, FFP didn’t help, but main issue is that even if self sufficient. We’ve spent and sold very badly on the whole (Adama, neves will go cheap, Coady, silva and Semedo too expensive at a time we couldn’t afford) and we’ve not solved the same squad gap issues
