Who did Villa sign /sell in the Summer if they haven't appeared?
Did they spend any money?

Not really, got rid of a couple, the incoming were frees or loans.

the other stat often mentioned is the number of foreign players (well mainly Portugese for us

this site has quite a bit of info on squad makeup, transfers values etc. which basically shows we're more or less in line with the top 8-10 champ clubs, i.e. the ones with any realistic ambition to get promotion

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/startseite/wettbewerb/GB2/saison_id/2017

but does seem to show that the champ is becoming a bit of a two tier division, between those with money resources etc and those without, I guess it's always been like that to a degree, not sure if the gap is increasing or not ?

You either spend 8-13m and try to go up or you spend a couple of mil and ensure you don't get relegated?

Villa sold 1 player for a fair bit who wasn't that important for their side who's name I can't remember.

Villa spewed their load in previous seasons, McCormack, Kodjia, Hogan, around 40 million on just those 3 and none of them are currently playing! I reckon Villa's wage bill is vastly higher than anyone else in this division, and yet we catch all the flak, even Blues spend is comparable to ours

I really get the impression that a lot of fans think we 'cheated' because they see players who are too good for this level, and we shouldn't have them. Therefore we're abusing the system and paying more than we should.

As someone else said elsewhere, spend 10M on a striker, no one blinks an eye. Spend it on Neves, suddenly you're cheats buying the league, because how dare you make smart investments in quality young players instead of some overpriced ****e like McCormack.

Something seems off there, the page claims 27 of Cardiff's 28 players are foreign.

Gaston Ramirez and a couple of other high profile sales.

I bet they wish they cashed in on BenGibson now he looks bang average and there was talk of 25m in the summer!

To be honest guys although our net spend isn’t massive the price of some of our players are.

We got Neves on the cheap. Probably half price cheap.

Jota in loan when we all know he is worth £20m+ in today’s market.

Bonatini is a £10m player as is Boly.

Vinagre is probably worth £5m as is N’Diaye.

We did well snapping up Ruddy and Douglas for next too nothing. And Bennett for that matter.

Costa and Cav last year cost us £20m for the pair.

All in all even though we only spent £18m

Our squad value including loans the last 18 months is closer to £100m.

But on the other hand. Fosun are geniuses and deserve massive adoration for what they’ve achieved.

Well played Jeff Shi and Big Jorge.

I agree with this, and even outside of theoretical valuations we must be paying Jota, NDiaye and Boly particularly good wages that don’t get tallied up in this.

How much money are the average top earners on at their parent clubs. I wouldn’t say we’re paying completely over the top wages.
