When Lyon wouldn’t pay him 100k€ a week he more or less downed tools and told them he wouldn’t sign a new contract. Maybe that’s put some clubs off.
Apart from PSG, does any French club pay €100k a week?

If I was him I'd be waiting for tomorrow.

Today it'll be 'we'll pay you x k a week, but that's top whack, or we'll sign y' , tomorrow he holds all the cards.

Wonder what's happened with the Leicester team? They were close to that European place since they won the League, signed some good replacements for McGuire et al, Daka seemed good. Now rely on Maddison free kicks. So wonder if it's more the club than Soyuncu?

It's strange, they invested a lot more money and paid more than we did in wages, so I always felt we were a few years behind Leicester.

However, does their owner's money not come from Duty Free shopping in airports around the world? Maybe they're going through their own lean period where it's unwise to splash out on footballers until business is back to normal.

Sure? I think we can sign him any time, but if we want to play him in the PL then we need to name him in the squad tomorrow?

If we leave spaces open in the squad, then a free agent can be added at any time.

Agreed, if he's out of contract, preventing him signing with a club would be restraint of trade

No, he can sign for whoever he likes, whenever he likes but how could he play in the premier league is he’s not in the 25 man squad that is named a day after the transfer window close if he signs after that?

Ohh fair enough, nice, I didn’t know that. Thought the squads were final.
Well the rules say you can't change the squad outside the transfer windows 'except at the discretion of the board', but that doesn't seem to include filling empty spaces with out of contract players.

Pretty much confiirmed.....FFP plus "the impact of the pandemic has been undeniable".
Interesting that they're talking about business diversification as a way to get away from relying on player trading to make money, a bit like we're trying to do, and they also have stadiium plans on hold.

Mmm.... not at all convinced this would have gone down well if Jeff had writen it for us. At least they're strong enough to hold us off the bottom of the league.

Maybe so, football fans have very short memories.
They have actually spent a lot in the last few seasons.....70mill, 60 mill, 100mill, 115mill....and always more than they've banked in sales.

I think Leicester's problem is that they just didn't look good last season and so far this season, so maybe Rodgers will fiind himself in trouble if they don't buck up.
You could say the same about Wolves, but we've gone through the lean investment period over the last 2 seasons and probably have a little time now to see if it's improved things.

However needs to be registered by a certain time tomorrow

Don’t think that’s right once he is released before the window closes ( which he was) he can sign at any time thereafter regardless of the window …but if we were going to get him it would be done already? His salary demands have reportedly put others off. This is the issue…now that he is the only possible option we may feel he is too expensive

Thanks for the link.
By basic maths it seems their net spend from 2014-15 up to last season (=this summers transfers excluded) is 240 M£.
Over 8 years that is 30 M£ per season, which theoretically means one good player added each season.

If he was coming Mosquera would of gone out.

Probably, but after the Dawson upset, maybe they felt it premature to release him until he’s actually done a medical and signed a contract. Mosquera could still go out on loan in January if Denayer signs now, or Dawson or another are signed then. Or maybe they just prefer Dawson and feel confident they will secure him in January so are willing to take a relatively short term risk.

Too much sense in this post - needs to be pinned to prevent mass panic when old Jason doesn't sign by the end of today

Its also a shorter time as don’t we stop mid November for the world cup ? So the risk over a shorter period of time

Yes, they've been fairly pragmatic, and you have to take into account the extra wages per season as the quality goes higher.
It's interesting though that with this season supposedly giving some relief from FFP and a chance to boost investment with a "joker card", they havent been in a position to do so....whereas a club like Forest have gone berserk. I'm sure Forest have worked out they can steal a march on everybody by really splashing out and not being penalised in the future, like we would have been.

Seems to have gone totally silent on this front so assume we are no longer in for him.

Strange we didn't clinch Denayer yesterday. Hopefully will do as free agent quickly.

As to Leicester they still have a very good team, albeit the loss of Schmeichel and Fofana will be felt. A midfield of Ndidi, Maddison and Tielemans for starters is excellent.

This is true. I'd completely forgot about the World cup.

Maybe Denayer would sign for big bucks on a contact that'll see him through to the transfer window?

£1M for ten weeks up to the World Cup. I think he'd be looking for assurances he'll play though. Are we offering that?
