Given all the anticipation around the takeover, who would you want to be the new team captain on the pitch.
This generations Mike Bailey, Emlyn Hughes or Paul Ince.
I think this would be the most crucial signing to lead the new Wolves. Suggestions please.

I was thinking the same sort of thing earlier.

These types of players are virtually non existent anymore though. I honestly can't think of anyone realistic.

I suppose you could be looking at a John Terry type, but like you say there are not many of them around really anymore, difficult one!

Leon Osman? I'm struggling I must admit.

Osman was a signing that Jackett and Thellwell set up a good few months back- thought it would be good at the time. Whether the new owners/manager will revisit is doubtful. Would still be a good signing, but he isn't a natural leader- he is a quiet kind of bloke.

He's a free transfer now isn't he? I was angling more towards his experience and ability rather than his leadership. It's a tough one though. These players are a rare breed.

Mathieu Flamini - Only 32 still got a lot to give the game especially at our level, great attitude and work rate. Think he would bring great experience and a calming influence infront of a young back 4

I think this is one of the problems England have had at international level, we don't produce players with a steely mentality, not like say Italy with the warhorses in their back 3

If it's a player we already have, I am struggling. Not many born leaders in our squad at the minute, which may explain why we are where we are...I actually think our most leader like player is probably Jack....

Certainly ain't Danny, nice lad as he may be.

I thought Geoff Thomas was a terrible loss to us in the 90s in the iconic leader context !!

Things might have been a lot different if he had stayed fit!

Spot on! A fully fit Geoff Thomas, alongside Chris Marsden, would have been massive for us that season.

Geoff Thomas is, in my opinion, the best technical footballer I've seen in a Wolves shirt in my time. Shame he was clattered. Oozed class.

From the current crop I agree with Oldgold. Jack seems to be the most vocal and has a good connection with the fans. Plays with passion too.

I guess it ultimately depends on who we bring in if Mr. Li buys us.

it would have been a dream midfield. Shame he didn't have a brain while he was with us.
As for leadership on the field it's been sadly lacking for years.

I think Flamini would be an excellent signing. If we are to be promoted quickly, we will need players of his calibre that will consider the Championship if the money is right but still be good enough to be in the squad if we got promoted. There must be others, any suggestions guys?

The only true leader I've ever seen in my time at The Molineux was Mike Bailey.

For me. I don't think you need one. In England we have this massive thing about vocal players, leaders on the pitch. Look at the old england teams. Full of iconic leaders. Won nothing.

Forget having an icon. All about what Wales have and Leicester. Team spirit and a identity/plan/concept.

I'd be more intrested in seeing how we sign players. I hope it isn't going to be a case of, buying the best players and most famous players we can find. But have a plan, have requirements for each position, then by buy the best player for that. Forget everything else about the player.

Want specialists over Mr perfects.

Lee Cattermole is who id like and would add a bit of steel to a pretty flimsy midfield

Booby Moore? An iconic leader the only time we did ever win anything.

Don't you think Wales missed their captain last night?
There was football before FM2016, you know,

Was thinking of posting a similar thread. I think Ashley Williams would be an unbelievable captain given his experience and local roots - not sure of his contract situation at Swansea - but if we have a sudden injection in £££ I'd be going all out to get someone like him into the spine of the team.

Hughes was a really good influence on this team, as was Ince. Bailey was probably the last great captain we had.

Being honest, we havent really had many decent leaders at the club since Ince left.

Whilst Ince is the obvious one, I think Irwin would have also been a massive influence on the squad when he was here

Chelsea succeeded by choosing a local native - John Terry - as captain. Ditto Liverpool - Gerrard and Manure have always tried to keep to this. Man City lost their way last season and looked leaderless without Vince.

Jack Price is good enough to hold his place now and if we go up, so choosing him at his age would provide the continuity a maturing team needs over years and a local pivot around whom a changing group of foreign mercenaries can pirouette their talents without us losing steel and connection with the fans.
