So poignant to watch that legendary team gradually pass into history. Never to be forgotten.

Just Sir Geoff Hurst and Sir Bobby Charlton left now. Sir Bobby is suffering with dementia. Absolute legends all of them.

Never forget that 1966 day ever. I was 14 and will always remember Kenneth Wolstenholme ‘People are on the pitch, they think it’s all over. It is now!’

Iconic commentary.

God bless them all

George Cohen was one of the finest players to represent his beloved Fulham, something he did on 459 occasions.

He was also one of the unsung heroes of 1966. A great player and a gentleman. I think there is a statue of him outside Craven Cottage.

England's greatest ever team are now close to being reunited in Heaven. Just Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Geoff Hurst left

Rest in Peace George.

Below is that famous photograph when Alf Ramsey stopped George from swapping shirts with an Argentinian player after that notorious quarter final in 1966.

Brilliant photo Frank.

I remember that match when Rattin was sent off for Argentina and refused to go. Police had to escort him off the pitch.

RIP

His wife was on the radio a few months ago saying he wasn't well, she sounded like a lovely lady. The uncle of Ben Cohen who was part of the team that won the Rugby world cup. Can't think of another family who can lay claim to that.

I can name every player from that match 56 years ago yet if you asked me to name the team that played against France a few days ago, I would struggle. That is the impression that the 1966 team left on me.

I have seen all of the 66 side play for their respective teams against the Wolves at molineux and they all were without exception fine football players and without doubt deserved to win the World cup. George was just another of those who represented our country with such dignity and no little talent.

RIP George and thankyou for the joy you brought to a nation that day.

As a West London boy I watched Fulham quite a lot back in the day and George Cohen must have been playing in those games though my memory is such I don't remember tbh. Happy days down by the Thames and what a great player he was along with Johnny Haynes. The Cottage has always been one of my favourite grounds and I always associate it with GC and the 60s Fulham side. RIP George.

My best mate at uni was a Fulham fan. Went with him to Craven Cottage many a time (1966-69), and it has remained one of my favourite grounds also. Fulham fans were always downbeat and easy going compared to the arrogant idiots at Chelsea and they had a decent team in George's time. Fine player. Memorable for another reason -- he was in that Fulham team we beat 9-0 after they came up from Division 2 in 1959. That's one of only two occasions since WW2 that we have scored 9.

BSK, you seem to be a fount of all golden oldies knowledge. I have a very vague recollection of us playing Fulham at the Cottage in a mid week LC match back in the 60s and I was so looking forward to seeing Wolves play but I think we got tonked 4 or 5 nil? Can you help with this at all? Thanks

Yep. October 5th 1966. Fulham 5 Wolves O League Cup Round 3. Fulham were in the old 1st Division, us in the 2nd. We got promoted that season and beat them at the Cottage 2-1 on the opening day of the following season.

Thanks for that reply BSK. I was 3 weeks off my 15th birthday and I expect my ticket would have been purchased for me by my parents or from pocket money saved. I knew I started supporting Wolves in my early teens and all my first games watching the old gold would have been around the London grounds. Venturing further afield would have been beyond my school boy funds! Funny thinking back but I've seen Wolves more times at the London clubs old grounds (Highbury, White hart Lane, Upton Park) than their new ones!
