The ESL just won their appeal against EUEFA and FIFA. Basically a restraint of trade. 70 teams want to join but Premier league teams reluctant to after the fan revolt last year.

another league on top of the fifa club world cup and champions league new format will literally mean players are flogged , squads wont be big enough and it will water down other competitions, basically reducing the quality.

Its stupid it really is, if klopp and guardiola are moaning about schedules now, imagine...

If allowed I can see a lot of EPL clubs wanting to join a Super League. The normal Sky 6, Newcastle, Villa, West Ham, Forest, Everton to name 11. In fact any club who are likely to fall into FFP difficulty.

It will be the end of football

Just let the so called Big 6 bugger off and join up with the other European greed teams from Spain, Italy, Germany, France etc.

Make the Premier League more competitive by doing so imo.

Create a competition where our new Premier League would play the new Super League every season to replace the Champions League and it’s sorted!

The Super League failed long before UEFA got involved. Fan revolt ended any English clubs involvement (and the incoming independent regulator will stop it legally too). German clubs won't join either for similar fan sentiment reasons, PSG won't join as their owners own beIN sports who hold a huge Champions League contract. It's basically going to be a few top (broke) teams from Spain and Italy and a load of smaller clubs no one will care about.

This court ruling changes little.

Hope it does happen - let the Man City's and the Newcastle's join this group. Might make the domestic league more interesting for the rest of the teams.

It just means UEFA's rules didn't actually enable them to block it in 2021 - but they've changed their rules since then to strengthen this.

Premier League teams won't be able to, even if they wish to, due to legislation over here which will be passed very soon. Believe it's the same with Bundesliga clubs.

Don't mind them cracking on as long as it doesn't disrupt the English leagues, which it won't.

Football is being messed with way too much . Constantly trying to bleed every penny out of what has become a commodity.
I thought VAR had wrecked it but in general its just becoming too Americanised and sanitised.
Sometimes things just need to be left alone.
I can understand the leaning towards non league football nowadays .........its like it used to be .
Even the way the games played ......everyone all of a sudden has to play from the back ......crappy narrow tip tap possession football . The high press ......blah blah blah .
It's a simple game loved by billions .......why is it constantly being messed with ? Answer ......money .

For info purposes, the new proposal has been unveiled.

It would be broken into 3 leagues:

- Tier 1: Star (16 clubs)
- Tier 2: Gold (16 clubs)
- Tier 3: Blue (32 clubs)

Each would play 14 games in a League phase (7 Home and 7 Away) and then top 8 teams in each League would do straight knock-out tournament.

Bottom clubs in the Star and Blue Leagues would be relegated (with promotion for the top ones) and 20 of the 32 teams in the Blue League would change each season based on performances from them and those in there domestic leagues.

They’ll be two Women’s League of 16 teams apiece, done in the same format as the Men’s.

All games would be Free-To-Air on a dedicated streaming platform.

Full details are in the Link.

Until Sky start pumping all their billions into that and the premier league ends up like the Scottish Premiership

Sky won't have distribution rights, the billions are being pumped in from elsewhere

Do no teams from the gold league get relegated? Have Barcelona rigged it so they never drop out of the whole competition?

Even if Sky can't somehow can't manage to worm their way in. The premier league value will diminish as will the money paid for it by tv companies

The PL will be just as competitive as it is now. The ESL replaces the champions league rather than anything domestically is how i understand it

With the obvious caveat that any ESL clubs get tons more money than they do now

Pretty much but esl have to have some agreement with the leagues and uefa to replace the current formats

My reply was to the poster saying for the top teams to leave the premier league

Be interesting to see how uefa respond. They will either have to streamline their competitions to just straight knockouts or lose the top teams

As far as I can tell reading bits the ruling is worth about as much as the paper the statement is written on. There is nothing actually stopping any club joining up, just they would be kicked out of their domestic competitions and banned from FIFA and UEFA competition. It doesn't happen without the English clubs as we are the money and everyone now wants a slice of the Premier League pie and the greedy 6 are well aware of where football fans of all clubs stand in this country.

Yeah, if you read it, it’s basically the (old) Spotify model. A free tier with loads of adverts and limited angles, then a subscription tier with fewer adds and more angles. Experience is that over time the free tier vanishes once enough people have signed up and gotten hooked on the subscription tiers.

So yes, likely a bunch of seed money to launch the platform and keep it fully funded until the subscription revenue reaches an acceptable level.

They’ve already changed their rules since the original ESL proposals so they are confident they’re not losing control.

This ruling doesn’t actually change anything other than re-igniting the debate.

Football really has changed, it’s been stolen by big business, ruined by VAR and everything about wolves at the moment is boring.

i’m seriously considering switching permanently to non-league for next season.

Honestly **** 'em.

The PL could use this to their benefit and improve the game over here:

Get rid of in season European competition as it will be pointless anyway with all the big teams from elsewhere banned.
Increase the PL by 4/6 teams.
Bin of FFP.
Distribute TV rights and prize money evenly across the league.
More teams relegated/promoted from the championship.
Playoff like American sports (sorry, this point is the weak link) at the top of the table now there will be no race for the top 4.
Get rid of VAR.

The way I see it is that the PL is the most watched, exciting and most in demand league in the World. If we keep our biggest clubs in the domestic league then I struggle to see that changing any time soon.

Free-to-air?

Broadcasting rights drive football’s riches, so how is this league funded?

Edit: Ignore, just read Sussex Wolf’s post above.

Bayern, Sevilla, Manure and Atleti all reject it.

Expect to see more clubs come out with rejection statements.
