Crystal Palace Ultras they call themselves, they keep on banging on that drum, for the whole game. Did it against us. Thier security must be bad, if they let them bring drums in. I don't know any other stadium that lets this happen. When their drums get confiscated. They some times throw flares onto the pitch. Anyone had any experience with them? Also known as the Homesdale Ultras.

Basically they are a Crystal Palace hooligan firm, for anyone who doesn't know anything about them. Annoying bunch, and far too exuberent. I don't mind cheering and flags. Yet, flares and drums, shouldn't be in stadiums. For a multitude of reasons.

Bunch of thugs by the looks of things. All their faces are blurred on Facebook. There is exuberence, and there is just taking it way over board, and being over the top isn't there? Ruined the game, I wanted to watch the game, and all I could hear was some of them banging on their drums. I hope when they visit Molineux this season, our security removes their drums. And flares. Hoodlums the lot of them.

I commend them for their passion, yet, the hype in Selhurst Park is far too much, and over the top. Also considering the Police let this happen. When, the Yam Yam Army, and the Subway crew at Wolverhampton barely make an appearance, yet in the 80's, 90's, millineum to 2010. There were scraps galore outside the Wolverhampton subway, that have stopped now. So how come Palace get preferential treatment from Police. If the Yam Yam's aren't allowed to scrap. Then how come the Crystal Palace Ultras are scrapping with the Brighton fans, and Crystal Palace fans, the Ultras, are troublemakers.

They're harmless. I went when they beat us 2-0 a few years back and even though their team was excellent, the atmosphere was non-existent. It was my first time there since the 'Ultras' were in and I was expecting a racket.

I know we're at the other end of the pitch to them but I couldn't believe it.

All I am saying is, if the Yam Yam's aren't allowed to scrap anymore, and having their season tickets removed. Then how come these hoodlums are getting away with it. Oh well have to agree to disagree.

Not really. I am just trying to raise awareness, of the fact that, we have to have a level footing in football. And if people in the South Bank had drums and flares, then there would be mass aressts. Yet, for some reason, these hoodlums are getting away with it.

To be honest they support their team their way. It isn't one that l personally like or would want at Molineux and indeed the failure of the self-styled WV1 suggests that l am far from alone. However l hardly see that making them hoodlums.

Self styled WV1, can you tell me more about this, wasn't aware it was a failure, I need to do some research into this. Yeah, I don't know, maybe I am over reacting. I just want to watch the game without having to listen to a racket of banging on drums, it ruins the game.

I don't like drums in grounds, I think most don't, but it's a club decision. Bringing a drum doesn't make you a hooligan. I don't mind them at Palace, they make some atmosphere, it does really annoy me at places like the Emirates where they put them right by the away fans to disrupt our singing.

WV1 are the wannabe ultras you find at the right hand side of the South Bank who openly said that Palace were one of their inspirations. To quote what some others have said on the Mix they sing boring songs that no one else joins in with and happily try to sing over other fans who start songs.

Could be worse - they could adopt the vuvuzela

Simple way to get this stopped (if it upsets anybody) is to wait until we go to Selhurst Park again. Simply wheel in a grand piano, brass section, couple of cellos and a choir.

I'd love to see an orchestral arrangement of Stevie Bull's a tatter in D-Minor.

Got to better than the drunken monkey smashing a stick against a hollow tree that Palace pride themselves on.

Bonus marks for the use if the word hoodlum. They aren't getting away with anything. It's all clear and pre organised. It's not troublemakers at all. We've had pre organised drums before too.

Palace is one of the grounds I've always felt safest going back to the 90s fwiw.

Just in general I don't think some people realise how far we've come. Even in relatively recent history I've stood in grounds thinking about the safest way to get away from the ground, now I really don't think about it anywhere. In many ways the sanitised PL product is a bit bland, but I certainly don't miss the possibility of dodging round the roads in Small Heath or around Filbert Street.

It’s good fans go out their way to try and create atmosphere.

Calling yourself an “ultra” is seriously naff though…

What would the criteria be for being a Wolves Ultra?

The Palace “ultras” are harmless and completely non violent, they’re basically a supporters group in all but name. They apparently asked for police escorts for their Wembley trip a few seasons ago so they could chant and drum their way to the ground without getting set upon. Then Millwall in the cup (away) they send a newsletter out with rules and recommendations for their group which included not attracting attention.

As said, they’re harmless. Personally I think they’re amazingly cringey and the atmosphere they generate is well overplayed by the media - I’ve witnessed the pitch side mics getting moved nearer their end pre match at Selhurst so it comes through more on the tv.

Wearing all black as well is funny, too. Just wear club colours rather than trying to stand out as the clubs “super fans”.

The point I am trying to make is that, if Wolves fans wanted to bring drums to Molineux, it would be confiscated, no questions asked. And would be rendered an offensive weapon. I knew this one guy, in the South Bank, who had his newspaper confiscated because it was deemed an offensive weapon.

The Palace fans will have permission from the club. Its an orchestrated thing.
There's nothing to say that your scenario would happen under the same circumstances at Wolves.

It's just annoying me, because I was trying to watch the Crystal Palace v Chelsea game, and instead of enjoying the game. It's just lots of people banging on drums for 90 minutes. And it ruined the enjoyment of watching the game for me really.

To be honest, Molineux needs something to get the atmosphere going again. It’s flat as a pancake for the most part unless something out of the ordinary is happening on the pitch, not quite sure that drums is the answer though.

Because there is a difference between banging a drum and kicking the **** out of someone.

Crikey ....if you think a couple of hundred supporting their team in the way they want to are 'Hoodlums' (my nan used to use that term )......Better not attend a Bundesliga game

Drums are allowed in stadiums aren't they, as long as they're searched before entry? Usually the case anyway, but perhaps it's down to the individual clubs.

I love it when Punjabi Wolves turn up at games so would feel a bit foolish criticising others for doing similar.

The flares is a separate thing and definitely not allowed, but oh well. Maybe me rewatching The Sopranos at the moment has me thinking 'what you gonna do?' about everything and not wanting to sound like a rat ;)

This country doesn't do Ultras, they like to call themselves that but in reality they're not.
I went to Ljubljana last year with 10 mates, ex-footballers in their 60's for a few days. We walk, drink, catch up and take in a game if possible. We decided to take in an edge of town 2nd/3rd division match and sat in a nearby bar in the sun before the game.

We were surprised to watch about 100 young men, dressed in black with flags and boots, march past on their way to the ground. The elderly groundsman locked the gate and told them to **** off.

They didn't know what to do, but after abusing locals in our bar they turned around and marched back to town, chased by two police vans and 4 cars.

Turns out they were Maribor Ultras, in town early for the Derby game, who decided to trash Olimpija's feeder club.

Didn't bother us, too old, confused by our mix of old English football shirts. But it did add a bit of excitement to the holiday.
