Shocker for anyone with young families.Shocker for the Chelsea fans with young families
I probably wouldn't have minded it years ago, but for anyone with young children or grand children it's not ideal. With it being being a 4 hour round trip and having two small children, Christmas eve rules me out. I can see why a lot will like the idea, I know a few years ago id have definitely have been one of them.
Thats the wife with no Xmas presents this year then.
I also think if the fixture was reversed and we were travelling away Christmas eve the reaction of some would be different with the logistics involved. So I can see why fan groups aren't happy and there is a lot of fuss, but lets be honest football sold its soul for the tv money a long time ago.I probably wouldn't have minded it years ago, but for anyone with young children or grand children it's not ideal.
What I don't understand is why people think it's great that's it's on Christmas Eve when it just means that there is no Saturday match.
Before children & grand children I would have loved a Saturday match on the pop all day, and then be able to do it all again on Christmas Eve.
And to people who say you have all year to spend time with your family, it's not just another day. Traditionally families all over the country are travelling to be with loved ones over the festive period.
TBF they are the ones doing most of the travellingBeen some media traction today, all seems to revolve around Chelsea though of course.
I mean it's viable, apart from one bloke I shudder at the thought at having to go from Surrey, through central London, up to Birmingham, across to Wolverhampton, and do that trip in reverse, on Christmas Eve. It is insane.Been some media traction today, all seems to revolve around Chelsea though of course.
Yes, that's all I'd say. In terms of travel there will be 3000 Chelsea fans making a trip, but a pretty big number of Wolves fans making trips of a similar length too. That's if travel is the main objection, although that's a tricky one, I mean I remember going to London for I think Spurs, West Ham and Chelsea last season and there being a train strike for all 3, then we played Palace as an evening kick off, so it's hardly a unique travel conundrum.I mean it's viable, apart from one bloke I shudder at the thought at having to go from Surrey, through central London, up to Birmingham, across to Wolverhampton, and do that trip in reverse, on Christmas Eve. I’m absolutely loving the knicker twisting going on about this fixture. If you want to be with your family so be it,there’s plenty of ways to watch the game at home and even so you could always listen on the radio and see f your moaning that you have to be there then that’s your choice
You really are a sad sod. When you get screwed over don't whinge when others enjoy their gloat!I’m absolutely loving the knicker twisting going on about this fixture. Funny that loyal fans who like to go to the games have been shafted? What a lovely person you are.not at all I just find it funny that folks are moaning. Nobody is putting a gun to anyone’s head to go to the game. It’s on tv so not like you can’t watch it anyway be it legally or not.
How have they been shafted?Funny that loyal fans who like to go to the games have been shafted? What a lovely person you are.
Shafted? All I can see folks moaning about is the fact they have to stay at home with the family and not go to the game.priorities.Funny that loyal fans who like to go to the games have been shafted? What a lovely person you are.
That is a huge worry. A Var wrecked Christmas Eve/Day/Boxing Day is more than I wish to contemplate. Having to take a shillelagh to the pet turkey is bad enough .... but Varred festivities as well .....As somebody who wasn't planning to go to the game (using Everton as my Christmas game this year), it's great timing to sit back, relax and get the Christmas drinks open with some live football on the tele.
And given it's Christmas, hopefully not too much of a mood killer if we get stuffed like a turkey.
How have they been shafted?
Many fans would have to work on Christmas Eve if it didn’t fall on a weekend (some do even if it was a weekend)
Do they tell their employer they won’t come in?
No match day will suit all fans. It’s funny how no one moans about Boxing Day games even though that’s always a weekend or a bank holiday. Yet kick up a fuss about Xmas eve games. I
It’s the same fans who moan about the new Sunday 6pm kick offs or Saturday 8pm kick offs but say nothing about the Monday night games.
Rest assured that this is not about you.Because boxing day games are a long accepted tradition, and the day is nowhere near as significant as Xmas Eve for those of us with young children.
People who freely choose to go to the odd games as they please are unaffected, as they will simply choose not to go to this one.
However as a season ticket holder, I have committed to pre-purchase a ticket to a game which has now moved to a day which causes massive ball ache.
i've got a young family and my lad is buzzingShocker for anyone with young families.
Good for you. Glad you will get to enjoy it all together.i've got a young family and my lad is buzzing
Why does he assume he’s talking for every fan?So now our supporters trust are trying to get the game played on the Saturday at 8pm.
I can't think of anything worse

Supporters' Trust still looking to 'reverse' Wolves Christmas Eve fixture
Wolves 1877 Supporters' Trust chairman Daniel Warren is calling on the Premier League to reverse their decision for a Christmas Eve game and has demanded fans be consulted on future decisions.www.expressandstar.com
He’s certainly not talking for me.Why does he assume he’s talking for every fan?
Exactly what I was thinking, I would rather have a lunch time Xmas eve game than a Saturday 8pm gameWhy does he assume he’s talking for every fan?
The point is that people who go to matches go, they don’t think oh I won’t go to this one it’s on TV. Those of us who have other commitments on this day no longer have the choice to go.not at all I just find it funny that folks are moaning. Nobody is putting a gun to anyone’s head to go to the game. It’s on tv so not like you can’t watch it anyway be it legally or not.
They do have a choice though they may not want to but the choice is there. The point is that people who go to matches go, they don’t think oh I won’t go to this one it’s on TV. Those of us who have other commitments on this day no longer have the choice to go.
And the point is that folks are moaning because they have got to spend time with their family instead of going to watch a game of football. It’s all about perspective. The point is that people who go to matches go, they don’t think oh I won’t go to this one it’s on TV. Those of us who have other commitments on this day no longer have the choice to go.
