The First time I went to a Wolves game in Blackpool was 30th October 1976, I was 19, I went with a load of mates in cars and in the morning we went for a drink in Diamond Lils, which was in the Fairground. I remember going for a defecation and whilst so engaged , heard some Blackpool fans stating how they were going to knife a Wolves fan ! better than ex-lax !
I remember the ground and the thousands of Wolves fans queuing to get in, estimates range up-to 11,000. The gate was 21005, Blackpool's highest of the season. The atmosphere was electric. The teams were taken off the pitch due to crowd trouble and at half-time I recall the back of the Kop stand being kicked in and Police horses on the terrace. The game finished 2-2 with a fantastic header from Frankie Munro ! at the end of the game , we had to meet the girls we had travelled up with and arranged to meet at the tower, as we were walking there we were set upon by a gang of Blackpool fans and in the subsequent melee ended up in a shop front. We spent the evening in Blackpool and all in all a great day!
The next time I went was slightly different, it was 5th April 1986, third division and heading down. We took slightly less than 11,000, but it was still very impressive, about 1500-2000 and we won 1-0 neil Edwards, who we paraded around the ground. After the game, the Molineux hoards, led by Fingles descended on the beach and a game of 250 aside was played watched by hundreds on the promenade. I went with the official Wolves SC, with whom I was secretary and we stopped the weekend at a hotel on the front. Fun and games going off all evening.
The next time was the 28th February 1989, a night game, and boy did it rain ! We won 2-0 and Nigel Vaughan scored.
The last 2 times I have been morph into insignificance, we won one ,(seb 2-1) and drew one 0-0. I also went to a pre-season friendly in the 90ties, got there at 10-30 for a 7-30 kick-off and missed the game, talking to Derek Mountfield in the seasiders club and realised the match had started, we got escorted around the ground.
Generally happy memories, may we add to them !
