The First time I went to a Wolves game in Blackpool was 30th October 1976, I was 19, I went with a load of mates in cars and in the morning we went for a drink in Diamond Lils, which was in the Fairground. I remember going for a defecation and whilst so engaged , heard some Blackpool fans stating how they were going to knife a Wolves fan ! better than ex-lax !
I remember the ground and the thousands of Wolves fans queuing to get in, estimates range up-to 11,000. The gate was 21005, Blackpool's highest of the season. The atmosphere was electric. The teams were taken off the pitch due to crowd trouble and at half-time I recall the back of the Kop stand being kicked in and Police horses on the terrace. The game finished 2-2 with a fantastic header from Frankie Munro ! at the end of the game , we had to meet the girls we had travelled up with and arranged to meet at the tower, as we were walking there we were set upon by a gang of Blackpool fans and in the subsequent melee ended up in a shop front. We spent the evening in Blackpool and all in all a great day!

The next time I went was slightly different, it was 5th April 1986, third division and heading down. We took slightly less than 11,000, but it was still very impressive, about 1500-2000 and we won 1-0 neil Edwards, who we paraded around the ground. After the game, the Molineux hoards, led by Fingles descended on the beach and a game of 250 aside was played watched by hundreds on the promenade. I went with the official Wolves SC, with whom I was secretary and we stopped the weekend at a hotel on the front. Fun and games going off all evening.

The next time was the 28th February 1989, a night game, and boy did it rain ! We won 2-0 and Nigel Vaughan scored.

The last 2 times I have been morph into insignificance, we won one ,(seb 2-1) and drew one 0-0. I also went to a pre-season friendly in the 90ties, got there at 10-30 for a 7-30 kick-off and missed the game, talking to Derek Mountfield in the seasiders club and realised the match had started, we got escorted around the ground.

Generally happy memories, may we add to them !:D

I remember being at Bloomfield Road a few years ago with the likes of SEB and Mancienne in the side. The game ended up 2 - 2 and I remember how bloody cold it was (there was a pitch side thermometer which you could see falling by the minute !). Abseloutely freezing !

I also recall we stood on temporary stands which shivered and shook whenever the Wolves fans stomped thier feet

That match in 76 was my first time at a football match, I was 11 and wearing my wolves bobble hat and scarf! I will never forget the feeling of hearing the noise of the crowd and seeing my wolves heroes playing live in front if me. I remember the players being taken off because of the trouble and I remember the pride I felt seeing all the wolves fans and the players. A great day!

5th April 1986... Being there to see a rare 1:0 win on our way to relegation to the fourth division. Sad in a way that we have taken the kids on holiday to Blackpool many times, yet this game is the best memory I have of the place.

April 86 was a Dean Edwards goal I think.
Went there in about 89, they made it a midweek fixture and got soaked on the open terrace.

Myself & Burlton Wolf went to the Blackpool game in 89 I was 15 & I skived off school for two days & stayed at a friends mum & dads b & b.From what I remember that's the most rain I've ever watched a game in!! If memory serves me correctly Mark Kendall was beaten the ball went through his legs but ball got stuck on the line cause of the water logged goal mouth.

I was only talking about this with my mate the other day - we were the lucky ones as we were in the covered seating on the side, the ball went a good 2 foot over the line but Kendall scooped it back and the linesman on the far side never spotted it Kendall was grinning ear to ear to the Wolves fans after that.

The game that really stands out for me was a midweek game Wolves won but for life of me can't recall the year. The heavens had opened and the Wolves support was given an open end and supporters were getting drenched. Managed to shelter under the side stand as I recall but I can never remember if it was actually open to Wolves supporters or not?

It wasn't just the rain though as it was blowing a real storm.

Wondering if it was the game Leominster Wolf attended.

That win in 85/86 season stands out for me.

with no internet and living in New Zealand, the only way to get football results was to listen to the NZ National Radio Programme (like our version on the BBC).

At 9am NZ time every sunday morning the presenter would read out all the football results from England and Scotland, all divisions.

I was pretty young and would tune in all worked up and anxious to hear the results for wolves but having to wait ages til the guy got to reading out the third division results! :)

That day when he said Blackpool 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers 1 was over the moon as really was an upset win for wolves during a time of crisis

wish I could have got me hands on the programme for the game

sundays were good cos at midday we had Brian Moore presenting "Big League Soccer" and hour of highlights of div one games in England. was the ONLY time football was on TV all week: one hour.

how times have changed

After the 89 match we walked to the sea front to a guest house that Dennison had something to do with for the post-match drink. The wind on the front was so strong it nearly dried us after being soaked for 4 hours !

Just to annoy Mr Wolf...

My first ever visit to Bloomfield Road was Saturday 19th September 1959, aged 11. We (Mum, Dad, sisters, a couple of aunts) went up on the Friday (had to have the afternoon off school!). It was a combined Wolves match/ Illuminations trip. The lights were great, but not so much the football, as we lost 3-1. There was a bit of the 'after the Lord Mayor's Show' about the game as the previous Saturday we'd beaten Blackburn 3-1 at the Mol and absolutely mullered Fulham 9-0 on the Wednesday. Don't remember that much about the game itself, except for our goal which was scored by Norman Deeley.

This thread has been picked up on a Blackpool forum. For some reason they appear to dislike us !

They don't like us lol. I actually don't mind blackpool has a football club and I always take my kids to blackpool for a couple of nights a year to see the lights and take them to the pleasure beach.

I went in '76. I couldn't believe we could take that many fans to a division 2 league away game! As for other fans not liking us, we were known for our hooligan element in those days and there were many a rumble, so I am not at all surprised! So many Wolves scarves and millions of coaches! :D

Just wondered if anyone on Molmix remembers Wolves 2-0 win at Bloomfield Road on 6th Feb, 1971.

Good game but it seemed to be heading for a goalless draw, then we scored two in the dying minutes.

Was stood at the top of the Kop on the far right side with only about 500ish Wolves fans.

It was dark up there, and I think some members of the London Wolves were stood near me.

As I type, just trying to think of the Wolves scorers..

Blackpool 1976, and we were all stood in the Kops left half. Some day that, as has been mentioned.

Ricki HM - Have you ever been to Wolverhampton or a Wolves game?

well Mr Wolf I can give you my life story re wolves if you like :top:

aye well its like this got into soccer when I was a kid in the 80's. NZ has always followed english football and everyone who likes soccer followed a UK team.

My first ever shoot magazine I bought in 1983 had a wolves team photo in it and I took an interest as that was when wolves nearly went bust then bounced back to div 1 with DD.

I also had a penfriend from Wolverhampton, a certain Tim Nash to be precise, in the mid 80's, he sent me cuttings, programmes, wolves shirts etc and I sent him stuff.

then ricki herbert, a local kiwi, played for wolves and on it went from there

have I been to wolverhampton? sadly not yet. why? well I will tell you and it aint pretty. In my late teens I got very ill with a chronic health problem, dropped down to 40kg and I was in and out of hospital for over a decade blah blah

I couldn't travel as so unwell otherwise I would have been over to wolverhampton in a flash.

Health is a lot better now, took ages blah blah, and my goal is that I am going to get myself over to wolverhampton to watch a wolves game.

thats my plan :D

buy me a ticket over and my plan will happen faster :D

I actually did make it to England once: in 1996 things were looking very bad for my health and at the time my brother was living in London and my mother was living in Colchester. Guess they figured I needed something to look forward to so they shouted me over for a three month break.

But I was quite unwell when I was there and I could only manage day trips, so as a result was limited to what I could do around london and colchester in short trips.

didnt make it to the midlands :(

I got to as many football games as possible: went to both the fa vase and trophy finals at the old wembley

saw games at crystal palace, orient, fulham, chelsea, aldershot town, colchester united, Ipswich, corinthian casuals, Wivenhoe Town, Harrow Borough, Wealdstone, Hendon Town, wembley fc

looking back i am amazed I made it to the UK at all!

so yep my plan is to make it to Molineux some time in the near future, havent traveled much so will be quite a buzz to do so

Can't we set something up on the mix to try and get ricki over. I will quite happily bung a few quid in.
