Hello Wolves

My name is Yordi Dietens and I am a starting sports journalist from Belgium.
I just started a Podcasting series where I discuss a random team in the world. I talk about the history of the club, the current situation, fun facts…
For my next episode, I am going to talk about Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and I would like to try something new. I am gathering short quotes, fun/interesting facts or unique stories about the club to use in my Podcast.

Are you willing to help me? If so, record your quote, fact or story on your smartphone and send it to: dietens.yordi@gmail.com or in a DM on my social media!
Thanks in advance!

FACT: Friendly matches between Wolves and the Hungarian champions Honved, Moscow Spartak. Moscow Dynamo, and others in the mid-1950s, all of which Wolves won, led to the establishment of the European Cup (forerunner of the Champions League).

The first and only club to pass 100 goals for four consecutive seasons in the English leagues from 1957/58 to 1960/61.

The first club to have won all four professional English leagues.

The only club to have won all of the main domestic cup competitions (FA Cup, League Cup and Football League Trophy).

The ninth most successful club in domestic English history with 13 major trophy wins.

In 2005, Wolves became the first team to have scored 7,000 league goals.

The lowest-placed Football League team to win FA Cup (ninth in the second division).

Billy Wright | The first player in world football to earn 100 international caps.

Steve Bull | The only player to score half century of goals in successive seasons (1987/88 and 1988/89)

John Heath | Scored the first goal from a penalty kick in the Football League (vs Accrington, 1891)

Tom Phillipson | The only player to score in 13 successive league games (1926/27)

Jimmy Mullen | The first substitute used by England (vs Belgium, 1950)

Dennis Wilshaw | The only player to score four goals in an England-Scotland full international (7-2 at Wembley, 1955)

Supposedly Molineux is the only stadium in the country you could flip the pitch 180 degrees and play length ways Billy Wright to Steve Bull stands.

I don’t know this as a fact, but I was at University of Essex 2004-07, and a university groundsman saw me in the student union wearing my Wolves shirt and introduced himself and made some general Wolves talk, then said to me he was a former Wolves groundsman and told me that fact, saying it would be a squeeze but doable stand to stand… I’ve taken his word for it ever since (although with a pinch of salt). I sit back row of Steve Bull upper, and got to say it might just be possible!

That fact is completely true Alex. No other club could do this.
At the time, there were even discussions to decide which way to have the pitch permanently.

Also a few decades ago I watched Ian Botham play in a friendly top level cricket match on the Molineux turf. The boundaries were quite long in all directions.

Great to finally have this confirmed, thanks!

Very interesting facts! It's clear that the club has a lot of history!
Would you mind voice recording some of these facts, since podcasting is adio-based.
It would be so nice to hear real Wolves fans in the podcast.
So for example: "did you know that Wolverhampton is the first club to have won all four professional english leagues"

You can send your voice recordings to my mailadress: dietens.yordi@gmail.com
Thank you so much for all this interesting information!

Rock legend, Robert Plant is a lifelong fan of the club and a vice-president.
Nice, I did not know that!
