On #thedebate this evening. I must admit I can't believe it's headline news on talk crap. They were saying he's served his time? I don't think so!!!!.....Deserves to rot....orvat least have a life if no privilege and financial reward, although he's probably got a stash put away....If he was a clever child molester.

Just asking, never heard of this guy but it seems he is a child molester.
Should this thread be in the current affairs section, i.e. the political part because I guess this thread will become free for all.

Don't want to sound like I'm defending him... but child molester isn't really an accurate description. He was convicted of grooming and fingering a 15 year old.

There... that should be sufficient to get the thread closed.

Luke McCormick was allowed to play again, as was that ginger Albion tossbag - however, due to the nature of the offence, really can't see him playing in the UK again

Some lower league chairman looking for his fifteen minutes of shame will sign him up.

Lock the ****er back up he has not served his sentence he is serving the remainder of it on license which is a scandal in itself. He don't deserve to partake in a privileged profession after a sexual assault charge. Oh if you happen to lose the key happy days.

Best choice for him would be to go and play abroad, that said, im not too sure what other countries (other than us) would allow convicted paedophiles enter and work.

Some very poor comments on here

As for the footballer, he’ll go abroad

It’s an interesting one, as if his profession wasn’t football, how limited would job opportunities be?

Not exactly a conviction that sits easily with any professional bodies, or anything that requires a DBS.

When I started in casinos, one lad got kicked out of the training when his then CRB check came back.
What he understood to be a formal caution for ‘trespassing’ as a 15 year old, was officially: ‘loitering with intent to steal’.
Not something they want with craploads of cash around.

Well if you'd rather, your taxes can go to support him on the dole for the rest of his life...

He has a right to get on with life now he's served his time but honestly, what club is going to sign him? If he hasn't been a fool (yes, big if I know), then he should have enough money to have a comfortable life even if he never plays again.

That's a thing. He'll be in the same training complex as under-age teams, if he joins any sort of big club, would he even legally be allowed to enter the training ground?

If, and it is a major if, he can find a club which is prepared to accept the resulting furore then he is entitled to play. I think that is extremely unlikely in this country. It might (but is far from certain) be possible overseas.
Forgetting all of the background he wasn't good enough for where we want to be even before missing several years football in Her Maj's accommodation.

Yup, that too. Probably not.

I was mainly thinking broadly though, how many even fairly ****ty jobs are closed to someone with that kind of record.

Its an indefensible crime which will make it difficult for him to do anything in life ever again (certainly in the UK).
I do question, however, how much his profile, career and gender counts against him when it came to his prosecution. When you consider that last week a woman that won "Come dine with me" groomed via facebook, has full sex with a 15year old boy and gets community service.

I know. The Oldham lesson has been learnt and taken to heart.

Has it? Chesterfield signed Ched Evans before he was cleared. There will always be a club willing to take the gamble.

That’s fair (or not, obviously).
Surely her life should be similarly ruined.
Maybe it is bar the sentence given.

In principle l agree but depends on the background too. Johnson groomed his victim over an extended period. Did that woman?

Yeah. Strange one that. A lot of the time if it's a 15 year old boy everyone thinks, "Gu on son", or "Lucky lad!", with very little said about the perpetrator, but if it's a 15 year old girl, the man in question is the worst person since Savile.

Surely he can just go and play in France?
Perhaps l'm being dumb but l don't get this.
Taking it seriously a moment, possibly while we are in the EU, but, if and when BREXIT happens, France will if they have any sense refuse him entry.

Good point. Probably a more peaceful life for him if went somewhere that his crime wouldn’t be a crime.

Ligue deux or the J-league beckon.

He's got too much money in savings to be able to claim!

I think the thing is that it's not so much the crime it's the fact that he specifically used his position as a footballer to get close to this girl and take advantage of her. Even if it's just to stop other players thinking they can get away with the same thing his career should be finished

I think on the level/severity of his crime there’s obviously worse things than what he did but no club above league 1 needs the ‘attention’ that would come with it. Plus I don’t think he’s mentally strong enough from the little I’ve seen of him to get back into the game anyway.

A 19/20 year old lad flirts kisses and fingers a girl 4 years younger than him does not really make him a paedo or a child molester. It just makes him a supid **** thats learnt the hard way. For footy reasons alone hes nowhere near good enough for Prem.

He was 27 at the time. He groomed her. That to me is quite a big crime. This isn't like some 17 year old having sex with a 15 year old.

As someone else has mentioned any club which would have him on the same train sing complex as under teams would avoid him. He is on the sex offenders register, I’d be very surprised that someone took him. Given the current climate with the #metoo movement and the focus on trying to grow the women’s game, it would go against the good work being done.
