Bit shocked to see Marcal and Davies are a year apart given the time gap between them playing for us!

Happy birthday today to

David Davis (33)

and not Wolves related but the great Jimmy Greaves would have been 84 today. Too young to have seen him play but my old man said that along with George Best he was the only player he ever saw in this country that could be labelled as a genius.

Regarding George Best. He is the best player I have ever seen live. He was a magician with the football. And remember in those days the pitches weren’t the bowling greens they are today and defenders kicked lumps out of him, or tried.

Sorry to go off topic. Happy birthday David Davis.

Wasn’t it Robert Taylor who was 68 stone not ray Hankin
I think they were both a bit on the chubby side but if I remember right when Ray Hankin made his debut there wasn't a shirt big enough for him so he had to wear a replica kit and he also split his shorts trying to trap a ball.

It's 40 years ago so the memory might be playing tricks on me!

Happy birthday Mick. I can still recall his press conference where he told the press that the ‘MM’ on his tracksuit stood for Mick McCarthy, not Merlin the Magician.. :)

Happy birthday Gary Pierce. 73 today.
I know in the grand scheme of things he probably didn’t make that many appearances for us but will always be part of our folklore for that cup final win. Also a favourite of mine when I first started watching Wolves. Met him a couple of times too at end of season presentations. Admittedly I wasn’t very old but he seemed like a sound bloke too.

Happy birthday Bernard. He was an unsung hero of the 1972 team, but he was a very decent full back.

Happy birthday today to

Meritan Shabani (25)

Harry Hargreaves (1896-1975 - 53 appearances 1921-22)

Weekend birthdays for

Ernie Hunt (1943-2018 - 74 appearances 1965-67. Fun fact. Ernie wasn't his real name. his real name was Roger but he adopted his fathers name of Earnest and shortened it to avoid being confused with Liverpool's Roger Hunt)

George Laking (1913-97. Was at Wolves 1934-36)

Jackery Jones (1877-1945 - 314 appearances 1900-13. member of the Hall of Fame)
