Happy birthday to

John McAlle (74)
John Humphrey (63)
Christophe Berra (39)
Big George Elokobi (38)

and posthumous birthdays for

Jack Curnow (19110-1990 6 appearances 1935-36)
the legendary Bert Williams (1920-2014 - 381 appearances 1945-59)

Happy birthday to them all.

John McAlle was one of the most underrated players in Bill McGarry‘s team. He was probably fortunate that he played so many games with big Frank Munro, but he also played his part and was an important member of the early ‘70’s Wolves team.

As pointed out by @Jack Russell today would have been the 100th Birthday of our greatest ever player Billy Wright. He still holds the record for the highest number of times he captained England. Probably the most forgotten great of England football. Did everything that Bobby Moore did (apart from World Cup success sadly) but 15 years earlier.

Also Happy Birthday today to

Jimmy Kelly (69)
Joao Teixeira (29)

and a posthumous birthday to

George Poyser (1910-1995)

If I recall correctly Jimmy Kelly was a promising Irish winger who never made the breakthrough at Wolves.

A few years back I bought a load of Wolves player pictures that came out of Shoot ! , Goal and Tiger magazine from ebay. The team posters of the mid seventies had Jimmy Kelly on them. Not sure where he went after leaving Wolves after having made 20 appearances in the seasons from 1975/76 through to 1977/78.

Isn’t he the one that killed a bouncer in a nightclub?

I have just googled it and there are two ex Wolves players called Jimmy Kelly. The one you recall was born in Scotland. He was sent down for 5 years for his part in killing a Liverpool nightclub bouncer on February 7th 1996. That James Kelly was still a Wolves player at the time from what I have just read.

The other Jimmy Kelly who is 69 today, was sold to Walsall ( therefore ending his football career !!!! ) in 1978. It seems he became a coach upon retirement from the pro game.

Not many players have crossed the Black Country divide between the Albion and Wolves and still be popular with both sets of fans. Cyrillie Regis did that. He was a lovely, caring man as well as being a very good footballer.

(Belated) happy birthday to everybody except Roger Hansbury.

Will never forgive him for hugging the post instead of goalkeeping against Torquay

Sammy Chapman managed Wolves during the worst time in the clubs history. Though it wasn’t his fault, the Bhakti Brothers were in charge then and non league and even extinction seemed a distinct possibility. Sammy did the best he could, but the players just weren’t good enough.

That season 85-86 was about as bad as it could possibly get. People always think of Chorley as being our lowest ever point but I actually think the 6-0 defeat by Rotherham in the FA Cup 1st round the season before in '85 was our lowest point

I was at that Rotherham game, and if I remember correctly Wolves were lucky to get away with it being only 6!
