I can sorta answer the FFP question

Wolverhampton Wanderers undertakes to report a maximum break-even deficit of 30 million euros in the financial year ending in 2020 and to finally reach, in the 2021-22 season, an aggregate break-even results for the financial years ending in 2019, 2020 and 2021 within the acceptable deviation.”

Thats the rules meaning that we can’t make a 30 million loss over the 3 years

WWFC swung from £20m profit before tax to £40m loss, as the pandemic led to revenue dropping £40m (23%) from £173m to £133m and profit on player sales fell £2m to £10m, while expenses rose £18m (11%), mainly due to investment in the squad. Loss after tax £39m.

Meaning we have to make some money counter act this

However we were down 40 million due to deffered patient of tv rights, so we would have mad w a small profit of we had that cash

And go answer why they take so long this article should help >>> What really goes on behind the scenes of a big football transfer
Ok so this is all because we got into Europe two years ago and next year won’t matter as much??

This might be why we appointed Lage . As we have no money to really spend but he was out of a job. So he was a yes man . A mourinho or someone of that caliber would have probably said no thanks if there is no transfer pot to spend

I hope I am wrong but this season I think will be a real struggle if we don't strengthen the 11 . As the backup last year proved it was poor or not ready . The only plus I have seen so far is Raul has come back and looks to not be too badly affected from his injury .

1) why do they always wait till the last minute to do deals ? Especially this summer when there is a completely different style being taught to the existing squad players not just bringing in new ones.

2) finally :) how have we issues with ffp when we only spent what we sold last year (cav, costa jota, doc etc ) we still have 200 mill in tv revenue we shouldn’t have issues when tickets to game are only worth probably 10 million a year.
1) it will always be better to do deals at the end of a window. Of course from an on the pitch point of view you’d want players in early, every club does. But clubs that need to sell have a stronger hand earlier in the window as time is on their side. As we approach the end of the window that time is almost up and the necessity to sell ramps up.

Put it this way, say we have 3 targets at the moment and the selling clubs want £60m for them, we want say £45m for Neves. As the window draws to a close those clubs become pressured and might be willing to take a combined £45m as something is better than nothing otherwise they’re in trouble. Equally we aren’t in as strong a position on Neves so we may only get £35m. But overall we’re better off by a net £5m across those ins and outs so financially it’s better to have waited for the best deal possible.

As fans we’re always looking at now. We want to put out the best team we can for Leicester. But the club are signing these players on 4 or 5 year deals, if waiting an extra 3 or 4 weeks cuts 20% off what we pay then it’s worth it in the long run.

Equally across a season it could still be too. If our budget is limited and by waiting we can get better players for the same amount of money then it’s best to take a bit of pain early with the trade off being that overall the squad is stronger at the end of the window as the pay back over time will be greater in theory.

Like I say though, as fans that’s too long term a view. We just want to win the next game!

2) we don’t have £200m in tv revenue for transfers. We have that revenue to cover all costs, a substantial part of that being wages. Yes we should have some money left over towards transfers but in the accounts that’s also got to cover the amortisation of fees we’ve already paid for players we already own. Without increasing income we’d eventually reach saturation on amortisation within the accounts until we get to a point that the operating profit is completely absorbed by those costs. That’s why you then need to sell players, ideally at good profits, in order to free up income to reinvest in more player transfers.

As I and others have said previously, self sufficient doesn’t mean break even on transfers. Of course we’ll eventually find out which of those 2 we’re doing but we won’t even know that at the end of the window, we’ll need to see next years accounts before we have a true picture of where we’re at and they won’t be available until February 2023 so it’s all hearsay and conjecture by fans on what we can and can’t do.

Ultimately you either trust what the club says, or don’t. That’ll then form your decision on whether Fosun are doing there best for the club or not. No amount of arguing on here is going to change either sides point of view on that. Only actions and facts after the event will give us the true picture.

Question- Assuming we keep within the FFP budget and assuming don’t go down ( I have a bad feeling on that) then what does it mean we could spend next summer?

Nobody knows the answer to this as it's dependent on Many, Many Factors.

But, Premier League FFP allows clubs to lose £105m over a 3 year period. Next Years accounting period will include 19/20, 20/21 and 21/22 - 3 years where in 2 of them we had to break even because of UEFA FFP - so one would assume we'd have a much bigger budget and ability to post a loss than we have in the last 2 years.

I fully expected Bruno to arrive with 2 or 3 of his Benfica team, who know the system and could’ve given us a head start.

The radio silence on transfers is slightly concerning but I keep telling myself there’s no way Jeff would throw Bruno under the bus like this, trying to play a different way with a squad stuck in Nunos way.

Feels like we’re either waiting on some Neves/Adama movement or we’ll take the Mendes scraps [think Neto/Jordao] nearer the end of the window.

COME ON JEFF - GET IT SORTED.

Or for example wait and get the best cut price deals

Clubs will be needing money, look at France, everyone thought it would be a feeding frenzy but only a few major deals have been occured

The longer the window goes on the more clubs may need to sell meaning we save money long term

So because we had one stint in Europe for one season 2 years ago we can't spend any money this year?

And if we don't qualify for Europe this season we can spend big next year? We ain't qualifying for Europe this year!

Something just doesn't seem right, everyone else (including the clubs that qualify for Europe) can spend willy nilly and we sit here not signing a player or 2 (CB and CM) that we have needed for the past 2 seasons because of a competition we qualified for 2 years ago and won't be playing in again for at least another 2 if we perform well ... if we sign the players that are needed.

It's like being an Arsenal fan ... needing a centre half but signing a forward for £75m.

Its not being in europe that did it we genuinely didnt break even in the 19-20 season, and get punished for it. This was a culmination of the championship season, 1st prem season etc.

We breached FFP through combination of wages player purchases and just general football business costs

I don't think there's a shred of truth in that Coady story, but selling him would be absolute madness. With the exception of the new manager, he's the only leader the club has - on or off the pitch. Real captains like Coady are rare as hen's teeth. Sell Coady and I'd be straight online taking the 5/1 about relegation.

Villa seem to break every rule in the book. It's just odd.

I am absolutely on board with Selling Coady, Mir, Cutrone etc as this means we'd only need 2 Signings - a CB and a CM.

If we sell Adama, we have to replace him. If we sell Neves, we have to replace him.
Agreed although cutrone would need replacing

They are right on the edge right now and they may get stung at the end of this year, maybe why they take the 100m for grealish in truth, and rescue there finances.

If you actually look at a whole however, we spent massive in the championship.

Villa have bought in more from attendances and merch then we were, its not just spending on transfers, its wages, and business turnover.

Going off tangent here so will leave it there - when they get promoted they suffered a huge loss but sold there stadium for £56.7m.

They have to rectify it this year.

After breaching UEFA’s tougher FFP rules which applied because we qualified for Europe for 19/20, we agreed to two year restrictions to our business and a minor fine to avoid harsher penalties they could have applied. It doesn’t matter that we are not playing in Europe these two seasons we have restrictions on what we can net spend on transfers and wages. If we broke the agreement, UEFA could still apply their much harsher sanctions.

As for the rest, if you don’t reach Europe then you don’t fall under UEFA’s FFP rules, so half the PL haven’t had the chance to fall foul eg Villa. At the other end, the Sky Six have revenue 2x to 3x higher than the smaller clubs so are able to spend much more on transfers and wages before falling foul of UEFA’s and their domestic FFP rules. In saying that, it’s biting some of the big European clubs much harder. For example, due to the La Liga salary/transfer cap (their form of FFP), Barcelona have had their salary/transfer spend forcibly reduced from over 400m EUR in 2019 to under 160m EUR this year. Until they get under it, they cannot register new players.

Do not sell coady. He is a proper captain. Ability is good but leadership is so important.

Neves is absolutely made for the armband.

As long as Coady is here, we'll always have the option of falling back in to the old ways of a defensive 3 at the back and we won't move forward.

Agreed. Spending this season is not about European qualification. It’s to avoid away days at Barnsley and Luton next year.

Even any signings are not world beaters, the defence needs some defenders that can actually defend. There must be a (relatively speaking) cheap snotter from the championship we can find? We just have to create some competition for places and depth to at least try address the fact the easiest way to score against us is to win a corner.

Basically by qualifying for the Europa League in 18/19 we actually shot ourselves in the foot. UEFA have very strict FFP rules which we were absolutely miles over due to our losses in our promotion season. As such, we agreed to a break even plan in 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 in order to avoid transfer bans and other sanctions - This summer is the last year of this, meaning we have the ability to spend to a loss again in 2022/2023.

The other clubs "get away with it" because their Commercial revenue is astronomical in comparison to ours and it all goes towards FFP. There is a reason FOSUN want the global reach of the Wolves brand to improve and it's so it increases our commercial footprint. Just go look at what City, Arsenal, United, Liverpool etc bring in commercially every year - I bet it's close to 10 times what we do.

These 2 reasons are also why clubs like Villa and Everton can seemingly "Break rules at will". It's difficult for some Wolves fans to hear and accept, but Villa and Everton are commercially MILES bigger clubs than we are. This is just a fact. likewise, they haven't been competing in Europe, so can adhere to the Premier Leagues FFP rules, which allow for losses of £105m over 3 years, rather than UEFA's £30m losses over 3 years (which is what we absolutely obliterated in 18/19).

People seem to think it's all down to FOSUN pulling the plug and their lack of enthusiasm - They told us all in the videos we had to be clever because of FFP and people still accuse them of lying - it's available to view in plain sight if you search for it.

I don’t want to sell Coady but can kind of see some logic in it. Theoretically speaking it would mean we could replace him with a ready made back 4 centre back.

But, it’s Coady. I love the guy.

I get the feeling that our targets don't want to come.
As supporters we can see the club is very much up in the air with little to spend. There is far more negativity than positivity currently. We're all hoping we avoid relegation anything else appears a massive bonus at the moment due to our financial constraints.
Why would Ramsey or any other seasoned career driven pro want to come to a club where he doesn't know who he'll be playing with come 1st September? So many of our bigger names are being touted to go elsewhere.
That said........ Get one in, increase positivity and other will follow.......... Hopefully ?

I don't know how many times this has been said on here and by the club now but some continue to refuse to listen

Even with a clamp down on our expenditure more recently we're still around 8th in the Premier League for total net transfer expenditure over the last 4 years. It doesn't take a financial genius to know we were going to hit the wall at some point with regards to FFP

Sadly it doesn't fit the agenda of some people so they throw all sorts of BS around to get a reaction

This is two fold as well due to some rotten timing and luck.

Our agreement to break even is separate to the UEFA break even FFP rules, which have since been relaxed to account for Covid.

So while other clubs are continuing to spend heavily despite big losses due to Covid, we are still handcuffed by the agreement we reached as part of our punishment for breaching UEFA FFP in our European season.

This season is a one-off opportunity for wealthy owners to inject capital into a club, due to the relaxation of the rules. We will not be able to because of the separate rules we have.

Surely there must be some sort of legal challenge to enable relaxation of our separate agreement too?!

A couple of signings, in the areas where they have been needed for a long time , and we easily avoid a relegation scrap.
Feels like an inevitable battle to avoid relegation this season.

I'm still bemused that people don't seem to understand what happened after we qualified for the Europa League.

UEFA have a stricter set of FFP rules as has already been said. We failed the FFP test because of our losses in the Championship-winning season.

To avoid harsher sanctions we committed to a "break even settlement" which allowed us to make a £30M loss in the first year, followed by an overall position after three years of breaking even.

The fact that we haven't subsequently qualified for UEFA competition is irrelevant, we basically signed a contract that committed us to the restrictions and makes us subject to UEFA sanction if we breach the agreement.

It's not an excuse, it's an actual thing that happened and we're still dealing with the ramifications until the end of this coming accounting year.

In reality we should have stopped out of Europe then. Finishing 8th. I'm sure our owners knew about this but then again it was great beating torino and all.
