Seville as I said in another thread spent 159 million the season before last and have never finished above 4th . No one really came back on that but surely people can see you need to spend money to move us forward . Yes we are not going to sign Messi but spending 125 million should be the norm if they want to try and break the top six .

No, because there are **** tons better players available. It's idiotic to throw money away to appease pant ****ing fans rather than sign good players. If you are a fan of the former Everton might be a team who interests you.
You asked if I would be happy dropping 30 million on him . Can you name a player less than 30 million we can sign that has a better record then ? . Last time I looked Watkins was 25 mil and not played in prem never mind Spain and 22 games and 8 goals . So can't wait for your player and price .

But who is the backup to Raul then in your opinion
Much like you I am aware the options are quite thin in terms of a like for like replacement. Campana for me is an unknown quantity, much the same as Neto was, and Jordao may well still be.
given what we know about nuno and how he likes to develop players, maybe those two will be the surprise players that will add the depth.
i do agree that it would be nice to have a second option, but we have lots of attacking options that could be alternative to Raul.
teams dont have To have a big man up front - has worked well enough for city with their attack for years.

Can you point me to where Watkins has signed? Or you just pulling his fee out of your ****. Ye 2 goals against Faroe Islands. Slightly better defenders in the Prem mate. He is obviously a good player but he isn't worth more than 20M at his age. I'd rather sign a player like Belotti from Torino. Suits our system more as a bigger number 9 rather than a drop off player like Rodrigo and a better record.

Belotti a good player but you see us spending 40 plus million on him ? . I hope I am wrong but no chance as we don't seem that ambitious imo . Yes happy clappers take aim but no way we will sign 3/4 players of that standard in one window . But clubs needs to do that to move forward or stand still abd end up selling some of their players .

I understand what you're saying, but with regards to £125m, there's 3 little letters that probably stand in the way of that.

Ffp yes but sell the training ground like Villa did as 140 million last season and I don't see them boarding up Villa Park do you

FOSUN are an investment company. They're never going to do something like that and leave the club worth less than it is.

Latest report: Medical passed today, and we were offered Serge Aurier in a cash + player deal but apparently the player said no. If I'm completely honest, not sure the club would've gone for that anyway. He's a proper liability, and our defensive-minded coach would've pulled his beard out watching him make basic errors every week. I imagine both player and club said no. Aurier off to Milan.

Doc will probably confirmed tomorrow if he's passed his medical.

So we have 2 weeks to replace Doc, get a new defender in, and a midfielder. Got it. E-Z.

I literally replied to you stating how they sold players for £117m in order to be able to spend £159m, as I’m pretty sure one or two other posters did too...

If you want to use stats and facts to back up your point that’s fine, but look at the whole picture not just the part that supports your argument.

As I said in that reply, if we were to sell several top players and bring in £120m odd, I’d expect we may well then go and spend £160m too.

You’re right that Sevilla spent £159m, but they also sold players for £117m last season too.

So on that basis, if we sold a couple of our biggest assets for £120m plus then yes I’d expect us to to spend similar to level on the squad.

Surely you can’t expect us to spend that amount without selling any players though? I’m sure if Sevilla hadn’t made those player sales they also wouldn’t have spent that level on purchases.

Even Chelsea for all the money they’re spending this season can partly attribute that to money they still have from the sales of Hazard and Morata.

Totally agree. It doesn't look like we'll spend the money. We will not be top 4 any time soon. That's not a complaint, just being realistic. We have had our best 2 (arguably 3) seasons for 40 years. 99% of the professional clubs can only dream of that

Why can't we make it 3 and push on?
I don't understand why we are going to be necessarily worse next season. We still have a better midfield than spurs and arsenal. Raul is still here. Adama Jota Neto are only going to improve.
We want to sign players. So why the hell not?

This guy saying spurs offered Aurier in exchange for Doc but the player said no. No mention of if we were interested in him.7F5250C8-8191-427D-8DE7-06E5E7AA362C.jpeg

Was clearly shown during the games after lockdown that we lacked a credible alternative to Raul. To go into next season with no alternative for Raul would be foolish in my opinion.

So thats it then? The slide to midtable obscurity when we could have a great chance to push on if they would invest more.

The chances of Nuno wanting Aurier are approximately zilch...

And how would that even work given that they are getting 25m from milan for aurier. Why would they swap him for doc when they can get doc for only 15m.

Doherty transfer said to be 14.7 mill,Aurier valued at £20 mill so

What is the value of Doherty -£34.7mill?

Why would we want Aurier .

Is the transfer off now that Aurier says Non.

No. Looks like Doc has still gone.

There is absolutely no way we will sell Doherty and especially not for £12m. It’s absolutely laughable that it’s even being reported. He’s one of Nuno’s favourite players, he plays pretty much whenever he’s available, he’s been here 10 years, we only have one right wing back, we have no need to sell, he’s in a pretty specialised position as wing back here, he’s under contract until 2023... the media and these “in the know” journos do my head in. Nobody knows anything when it comes to Wolves, they just spout complete and utter nonsense. £12m :tearsofjoy: I assume they’re selling Aurier for about £5m then. Laughable.

This aged well

Lets hope so......
My one positive thought from Doc going was that we must have someone lined up that was on a par ( but younger) or preferably better than him.

If we were seriously considering Aurier as a make weight in the deal , that would put that into question.

Because the top 6 in England is another league higher than the rest. It's not just one little place in the table. It's "Belonging" with clubs who don't spend decades wallowing in the Championship. Clubs who actually win things. And Spurs.

Interesting to note.... there have been 3 threads (I could find) over the last few years discussing player values.

One thread was after the promotion season, one in May 2019 and one in December 2019.

On the first thread, for Doc, valuations ranged from £5m to £7m (exactly the same as Barry Douglas, who was sold shortly afterwards for £2m?)

On the May 2019 thread, valuations ranged from £10m to £20m

On the December 2019 thread, there was a link to an article valuing him at £10m, and only one person suggested that was low. Literally no one else on the thread mentioned it.

But now, almost unanimously saying the fee is peanuts.

Until window closes (and for season) I think 3-5-2 suits us better...or for all 1st halves...

So, for at least 1st 2 games, as we stand, think Traore for Doc at RWB, leaves one of Podence, Jota, Neto, Campana, Davadev (?) to partner Raul up top.

At LWB, Vinagre... or even Jota to get him deeper & more involved, like Raul goal v Spurs....and reckon Neto can do both WB positions.

See all these able do a #10 role Podence, Neto, Jordao, Mouts, with Neves and Dendonk as holding 2.

If we seriously considered taking Aurier for even a second, that worries me much more than losing Doc for thin wedge money.

I know two people who live and breathe Spurs and you can count the positive things they say about him on the fingers of one foot.

I choose to believe that "Player said no" is code for "Nuno wet himself laughing, then gave Jorge and Jeff a trademarked Steely Look".

Serge ****ing Aurier, ffs.

Let’s not suddenly turn this into Wolves wanted Aurier yet he didn’t want us. Absolutely nothing to suggest we were ever remotely interested in him.
Agree, and from watching him I can’t for the life of me think we’d want him.
What’s probably happened is the reporter has heard that we were offered a player as part of the deal, but not who. Instead of reporting the truth he’s decided to make up who the player was.
