I make no comment on this, but here are WhoScored’s player ratings for the Premier League 21/22 season.

Applying the ‘minimum appearances’ filter, a total of 303 players receive an impartial WhoScored rating. Top is KDB with 7.64, followed by Salah, TAA and Son. The first non-big 6 player is Ivan Toney in 10th, with a rating of 7.30

Wolves players feature as follows:

RAN – 50th – 6.97

Traore – 57th – 6.94

Kilman – 83rd – 6.87

Neves – 88th – 6.86

Saiss – 98th – 6.84

Sa – 104th – 6.82

Semedo – 105th – 6.82

Podence – 121st – 6.78

Marcal – 136th – 6.75

Moutinho – 162nd – 6.71

Coady – 190th – 6.64

Jimenez – 192nd – 6.64

Trincao – 208th – 6.60

Hwang – 222nd – 6.56

Donk – 250th – 6.46

Fabio – 303rd – 6.09

This is the same rating system that gave John McGinn MOTM at Molineux for what I can only say was chasing Moutinho's shadow for 90 minutes, in the same game, it reckoned that only Coady was a worse Wolves player than Moutinho

It's really, really not an indicator, of anything at all

Like any scoring system, it will have its floors. But like any scoring system, if every player is scored in the same way, it will be a decent enough guide to relative performance.

303 players, with 9 of our 16 in the top half, means 9th or 10th is probably about right based on these scores.

Just for info.....

WhoScored Ratings Explained

WhoScored.com Ratings are considered to be the most accurate, respected and well-known performance indicators in the world of football. Our ratings are currently used among media giants, bookmakers and football clubs.

WhoScored.com Ratings are based on a unique, comprehensive statistical algorithm, calculated live during the game. There are over 200 raw statistics included in the calculation of a player's/team's rating, weighted according to their influence within the game. Every event of importance is taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.

An example: An attempted dribble (event) in the opposition’s final third (area of pitch) that is successful (outcome) will have a positive effect on a player's rating. Ratings that are flashing show that an event influencing said rating has just occurred. Green indicates an increase, while red indicates a decrease in rating.

The scoring system for the ratings is out of 10, starting from 6.0, with 10 being the highest score. The ratings are updated live every 30 seconds during the game. Our data providers Opta will update and adjust statistics where necessary 5 minutes after the final whistle. The statistics, and therefore ratings, are also subject to change at anytime after the game, due to any further corrections that need to be made to the statistics.

A green star will be awarded to the man of the match 10 minutes after full time. A few minutes after full time our data provider will undergo a review process to improve the accuracy of the statistics, which may result in some stats being corrected/updated. Ratings are also subject to an increase or decrease based on the number of goals a team has scored or conceded, and whether the team has kept a clean sheet at 90 minutes. Such boosts in rating are affected by an individual's playing position and their time on the pitch and will be calculated at full time.

Yes, it's flawed, but over time balances out. And is better than most fan ratings where a mediocre 1-0 win gets ratings of 8/10 minimum for everybody and a mediocre 0-1 defeat gets 2/10 ratings for everbody!

I think it's goalkeeper ratings are the most questionable. When a keeper has little to do, they'll get 6.

But overall, I think the message is about right - too many of our squad have been turning in 6/10 performances. Especially on the attacking side. While defensively the likes of Kilman & RaN (and Coady and Saiss until it went pear shaped for some unknown reason) were delivering 7/10 and better. Maybe Kilman is the key to all of it as things went downhill when first he had a small drop in form, then got injured.

Traore and Podence as our most creative forwards seems definitely right to me. Trailing behind them we have Raul/Trincao/Hwang all had moments, but overall very disappointing, not up to standard. Donk and Fabio... oh dear - no points for merely "running around looking busy", then.

It depends how it's weighted, and obviously being what it is it has to be done according to hard data so uses stats. But attributing a score between 6-10 based on stats doesn't demonstrate what the OP keeps implying - that our players aren't good enough. It can say they haven't played well overall, but it can't determine whether they're good enough or been playing to anywhere near potential

Yeah, if you look at the scoring criteria I posted above, it's clearly going to be weighted more to teams that have the ball more (so do more things during a game).

Toney's score does illustrate how involved he is at Brentford. Would be a great focal point!!
