Which retro kit would you choose to re-use?

The National Football Museum's shortlisting of Wolves' 77-79 wing collar home kit in the poll of all-time greatest football shirts got me thinking. If we had the choice, which strip from the past would we base next season's kit on? Above, I've tried to put together a selection of the most iconic, memorable, controversial Wolves shirts of the past half century. Which would you choose?

1995/96 was the classiest from an aesthetic point of view, in my opinion, and must have been of a good quality as my shirt is still in excellent nick. It just needed the wolfhead badge adding... it was a rotten season, mind.

Out of those on there, the Scoreline 1990 chequered shirt.

My favourite is still the 1993/94 one with the Town Crest as the badge. Would love to reissue that but with our current badge on the front and the town crest on the back of the neck or sleeve...

87/88 Staw kit.

Loved that kit. Then they replicated the stripes during the Saunders season (with a gold collar and the awful red and blue Sporting Bet logo).

This was a lovely shirt, I also liked the one that followed it with the collar/vneck combo and 'Wolves' embroidered in the material

I could certainly get on board with that. And this shirt was the best shade of gold Wolves have used.

Agreed,it was a very good design, but I can't help but think of the Bolton play-off defeat and the utterly rubbish season that followed.

I always think of the 87/88 STAW shirt as my favourite, and the white away shirt was pretty smart as well.

Yes that Saunders era kit didn’t work at all.

In the days when a kit lasted longer than a season!
We had that kit for the 88/89 and 89/90 season only difference being Scoreline became the manufacturers and added their badge to the right breast for the 89/90 season

Both were Scoreline, took over from Spall/Staw kit

I'll try and find the details but im sure the 88/89 was originally made by another company who went bust just after the season started and scoreline stepped in - im sure my 88/89 shirt which I bought in the summer of 88 doesn't have scoreline on the sleeve.
My parents wouldn't buy me a new kit when I was mascot in 1990 as they said it was the same.

I think you're thinking 1990 mate, we started with Scoreline who we then had a fall out with and Bukta took over a few weeks into the season

Ahh thats it, memory aint what it used to be. I think I had the away scoreline in blue then they changed to Bukta

You can see here in the programs for that year the manufacturers change

Another shirt I love for sentimental reasons was Screenshot_20200521_184356.jpg

My eldest was born at 5.30 am 31/july. The same day as the shirt was released. Caused a domestic when I queued up to buy one, and was late for visiting.

I think that was the moment, the mrs realised she was always going to come 2nd.

The 88/89 shirt had rubbish scoreline badges on the sleeves that peeled off in the wash.
The 89/90 shirt was identical but had the scoreline badge on the right chest.

Any of them before they were deemed 'essential revenue streams' and thus used to insult the senses and dignity of once proud footballing symbols of community identity and belonging.

All to flog betting sites, loan sharks and assorted pop and other 'essentials'.

Everything about this shirt is truly dreadful. There is nothing redeeming about it except the sponsor name. Goodyear always looked the part on our shirts.
It was different... Definitely marmite territory....

The sponsor on the 88/89 Manders home shirt was pretty much printed on,I remember a lad at school turning up at school wearing it for P.E. at the start of the season, all shiny and new,by the end of the season the sponsor had faded really badly,to the point it was pretty much grey.

I bought the 89/90 home shirt and the sponsor logo was black felt, and it weathered a whole lot better.

Reading this reminded me that not only did the Manders writing and scoreline badges on the arms fade but the actual Wolves badge (shield) pealed off my 88/89 shirt so we bought a felt badge from the club shop which my mum sowed on !
