Former Premier League star Carlton Palmer insists that Newcastle United need to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

The Magpies have endured a terrible start to the season under Steve Bruce.

They have yet to win a game, drawing with Southampton, Leeds United, and Watford, and losing to West Ham United, Aston Villa, and Manchester United.

Bruce’s side have conceded 14 goals in that time, the second-most in the league, and have scored just seven goals.

Their current top scorers are Allan Saint-Maximin, a winger, and the striker Callum Wilson, who each have two goals to their name. The other three scorers are Jacob Murphy, another winger, Javier Manquillo, a defender, and the midfielder Sean Longstaff.

However, Palmer thinks that the club need to bring in back-up to Wilson if they are to enjoy a successful remainder of the campaign.

He said: “For sure, they’re going to need to do that.”

Newcastle are next in action against Wolves this weekend and will be hoping to put their first win on the board.
