This is a phrase/nickname that you see and hear used for Wolves from time to time in the press. Just wondering how far it goes back. Has been used for all of my time following the club. Who thinks they can date it back the furthest with some confidence, maybe evidence?

Back when Wolverhampton Wanderers started playing Association Football (Soccer, if you will) at Molineux Stadium (or perhaps it was still Molineux Grounds back then) it was noted that the team consisted, solely, of gentlemen.

The local press, such that it was, decided - in their infinite laziness - that typesetting the phrase “the gentlemen of Wolverhampton Wanderers, from Molineux Stadium” was too much effort. That was the exact point in history that the phrase “Molineux Men” came into existence.

No need for any thanks.
