After enjoying the “reserves” vs Luton, I’d love to see a number of them feature vs Man Utd.

Expecting a return to a similar side we played vs Celtic though with Gomes or Traore for Hodge. Would like to see Fabio for Sarabia but think he’ll be held back. Possible chance that Nunes will be rested and if so Fabio could start.

Hard game against a team who beat West Ham 3-1 and Nottingham Wood 5-0 and finished 4th in France.

Sa
Semedo Dawson Kilman Bueno
Nunes Gomes Lemina Neto
Sarabia
Cunha

Subs Doc, RAN, Toti, Traore, Hodge, Fabio, Sasa, Hwang

I Honestly wouldn’t be upset if the team who started today played from the off. I thought they were excellent.

I think Sasa will be rested for this, no chance he should be risked with two games in a week coming back from such a serious injury. That being said, needs to be close to our strongest XI on Saturday, Rennes just beat Forest 5-0 tonight and are playing in Europe next season after finishing 4th.

I don't like Cunha as a #9, but Fraser aside, I'm not sure we have much choice if Sasa is rested. I wouldn't start Doc as they've got a couple of very quick wingers, one being linked to Man City this week.

The team against Rennes should be our "first 11" and what I'd go for against Man Utd:

-----------------------------Sa------------------------
-Semedo--------Dawson---------Kilman------Ait-Nouri-
-----------------Gomes----------Lemina---------------
-Nunes------------------Cunha-----------------Neto-
--------------------------Silva------------------------

Subs: Bentley, Toti, Bueno, Doherty, Traore, Hodge, Sarabia, Hwang, Kalajdzic

It's weird that the one thing this Summer that has given me optimism is our football! Shows just how much football has changed!

I'd love to see Neto Silva Sarabia

Yep. Say what you want about lack of transfers, but the players out there tonight showed the fans that they want to play for the badge. I have faith in the team as it is and if we can add to it that would be a bonus.

I mainly worry if we have a few injuries it could hamstring us (sorry Hwang).

Doc Kilman Toti RAN
Gomes Bouby Nunes

Some energy and intensity
Swap Hwang for Neto and you have one hell of a spicy team!!!

Hwang is awesome off the bench, he has an amazing ability to score off the bench when defenders are tired. So we need to utilise that, there is no shame in being a specialist sub in the modern game so we should use his best attribute rather than start him, when I think he looks at his worst if he is on the pitch at the first kick off

RAN

Nunes.
Lemina.
Gomes
Neto

Fabio
Cunha

Wouldn’t have a problem with any of Doc for Semedo, Boubacar for Gomes or Hwang for Neto. With Sarabia, Sasa, Toti and Bueno also good bench options there is a squad of 18 there that’s not far away with just one or two additions.

JL ... please play Cunha with a striker. He and Fabio could be a lot of fun together.
Wouldn't mind Doc starting either. I really hope there is some possibility RAN stays I think he is class and Bueno isn't in his league yet.

watching Dawson through pre-season, I think he needs to be upgraded ASAP.

He wasn’t the quickest last season, but he looks to have lost his legs over the break.

Toti and kilman looked like a good unit together, but as soon as Dawson came on he got caught out a few times in a way that the player he replaced didn’t.

Feel harsh saying it as I really like Dawson, but he isn’t for me the first choice and should be behind max and toti for the CB roles.

I’d have Semedo in for this one. Feels like it’ll be a backs to the wall job, and he just about shades it defensively.

Rennes are a superb team that loves to exploit the gaps behind the full backs and between the backs and central defence, so this will be a test of how robust we are when under the cosh. Kind of game where Lemina would excel, dropping back in to plug the gaps. Gouiri will rip either of Semedo or Doc apart, and we need the failsafe.

Would like to see Silva, Cunha and Neto all together.

Need to rotate gomes and bouby as they are an a head to head race to the magical accumulation ban for yellows lol
It does make you think that Hodge will get at least 10 games this season to cover the bans those two get.

Got to be the best XI for the final game.

Sa
Doherty, Dawson, Kilman, Toti
Nunes, Lemina, Gomes, Neto
Cunha, Silva
Would largely agree with that. I do wonder whether Cunha and Silva working together will be better than people think. Silva’s movement and willingness to run at and behind the defence is precisely what Cunha needs. last season he had no one who could do that role. We can also in the season bring on Sasa to create a focal point between the but probably not on Saturday.

Agree with you on Toti as well, I was very pleasantly surprised that he played so well at left back last season. The one that is worrying me is Dawson.

100% happy with Hodge getting that sort of number of games/starts as well to be honest.

Tidy enough and a really good option for us to have there. We've actually got 5 good options for that CM role with Lemina, Gomes, Traore, Nunes and Hodge.

Who was the lad that came on and played CM with Hodge?

I don’t necessarily think it is out the question to give Sasa another 45 minutes. He has probably been putting his knee through more intensity in pre season training sessions than he did last night.

That said I’d also like to see Silva up front with Cunha playing in behind.
