Taking a simple throw in.

Wolves are not the only culprits but more recently I have had to stop my inner self from yelling out ‘foul throw’ at Molineux when our own team has taken the throw.
Everytime Semedo takes a throw-in it is border line ’foul throw’ and it is noticeable with several of our others.
Yesterday RAN got pulled up for it and also one of the Arsenal players in the Newcastle game - both instances conceding possession at crucial stages of the game.
It’s not rocket science to have both feet on the ground and to start the ball from behind the head instead of bending forward and ‘putting’ it.
Not a rant just an observation.

Sooner we have kick-ins within a small square area or even with a corner flag style exclusion zone the better. Makes it fast paced.

Always noticed, particularly Semedo. I doubt he’s ever taken one that’s legitimate. To be honest, I dread us getting a throw in anyway because most of the time we just hand possession straight back. We are clueless from them.

I hear fans moan about throw-ins a lot, but there’s very little benefit for teams if we’re being honest.

It’s almost license to lose possession. Wenger is totally right. What do we expect players to do with a throw within a 12 x 12 yard box with 6 professionals stood inside of it?

Kick-ins would enhance the game IMO.

From a young age, football players are taught how to take a throw in. It seems when they become professional footballers, they forget that they have to have two feet on the ground.

Wolves throw in routine:

1. Pick up ball. Keep opponents on their toes by 50-50 doing a foul throw.
2. Even though it would be very advantageous to take a quick throw, put the ball down and let someone a hundred yards away jog over.
3. Spend another 30 seconds waiting to throw it to a teammate, all of which are static.
4. Immediately concede possession.

Rinse and repeat.

Apologies. Apparently it’s only the football league that banned them. No idea why the premier league haven’t, considering they were supposed to be clamping down on time wasting.

Why don’t we ever do quick throw-ins? Apart from long throw ins, it’s the only form of attack that can be gained from throw-ins. Leave it too long like Wolves do, then everyone is marked and all attacking advantage is lost.
All average fans can see the problem - why can’t professional players and coaches?

We do this already in our Over-50 league Stateside, and it does make for a better paced game. The conventional throw-ins realistically peg and limit play too close to the sidelines for an effective restart, and too often one throw-in leads to another, and so on, etc. I'm with Wenger on this one ...

There are only two advantages to be gained from throw-ins.

1. Because you can't be offside, have someone sprint deep into any space beyond a defender and loft the ball ahead of them in hope they can get to it.

2. Hurl it with as much force as possible at an opposing player's knackers.

Predictably, we never do either of these.

Wouldn't kick ins slow the game down as much as a Delap style throw in did, with everyone lumping the ball from anywhere straight to their 7 foot tall centre forward? Or are you limited in how far the pass is allowed to go?

Here's another one. Since when has it been acceptable to stand 1 yard away from a free-kick without the ref asking the player to retreat 10 yards?

Happens all the time now in the midfield area of the pitch.

Yep. They seemed to clamp down on it in the first couple of weeks, but it's finished again now.

Hamer booted the ball away in the first 15 minutes. Nothing. No consistency.

We have taken really slow throw ins for years, almost seems like we are waiting till all the opposition players are back in position before we take them. very frustrating.
I'd like to see all set pieces mixed up, every team prepares to defend for a curved or lofted ball into the box...

That's partly why long throws are often more effective, especially from specialists like Delap.

The trajectory of the ball is so unique, like a flat missile type delivery that's very difficult to replicate from kicking it.

It's basically one of the few ways that a lower level team can get the ball into the box.

Ryan Bennett was pretty good at them. I remember Nuno got him to do it for a few games after we lost to Cardiff away in the first season back in the Prem and it worked pretty well. I reckon Warnock had pointed it out to him over a glass of wine and Nuno was pragmatic enough to try anything.

Personally, I blame our players for lacking personality. As soon as I saw them lining up a long throw, I was screaming that we had bookings earlier in the season for slow throw ins. Yet our players say nothing about the double standard.
