The 25-year-old striker, who signed a four-year contact when he joined Wolves from Burnley in a £7m deal in 2010, has made it clear that he has no desire to remain in the Championship and that he has his heart set on joining Sunderland. He finished as Wolves' top scorer in both of his seasons at the club, reaching double figures in the Premier League in 2011-12 and scoring 12 times last term in a team that finished bottom of the table.</p><p>Martin O'Neill, the Sunderland manager, is keen to sign Fletcher to strengthen his limited attacking options. Asamoah Gyan has joined Al-Ain of the United Arab Emirates and Nicklas Bendtner returned to Arsenal after the end of last season's loan spell at Sunderland. Fletcher, who is goal poacher and particularly dangerous in the air, would be expected to line up alongside Stéphane Sessègnon.</p><p>Wolves, who have sold Michael Kightly to Stoke in a £3m deal after the winger refused to sign a new contract at Molineux, confirmed in a statement that Fletcher has handed in a formal transfer request. "The player's frustration stems from the fact that several bids have been rejected for his services, none of which meets the club's valuation.
