All our "restarts" from deadball situations are appalling.

Our plan to bring two centre-backs into the area at a goalkick and invite the opposition to press us in our final third until we either lose it or our full-back, totally hemmed in, just blindly hooks the ball forwards into no-man's land is really a work of (non-) genius that needs binning as well.

Pretty much anything that involves input from our current coaching staff is utterly gash....

I actually thought we passed our way out from the back well today. They didn’t panic most of the time (although every one around me had their hearts in their mouths constantly!!).

I can’t remember the last time we scored from a corner though.

Free kicks are just as bad.

Yep. Ending with a hoof to 2 ft 7 Podence against 15ft Dias.

It’s just dog ****.

Our set pieces are woeful. One of our corners ended up with Sa without a city player touching it.

Slightly OT but Sa has obviously been told he MUST pass it out on pain of death. He was passing to players who were marked and then put in a difficult position. I know he has no one up top he can kick it to but rolling/throwing it out is becoming an obsession.

Love Neves to death but don't get his "chip it over the bar" special every time we get a free kick in a dangerous position.

It's made even more annoying by the commentator piping up that he just loves shots from distance followed by "not to his usual standard, that one". It is, sadly.

I strongly suspect that the person who implements out short corner routines is the same person who masterminded the hey-come-and-put-pressure-on-us goal kicks, the throw-ins to marked players, and jarring techno music in porn compilations.

To be fair, techno works better than drum and bass

I don’t know why he doesn’t just put his foot through it.

Seems to have been relegated from free kicks anyway!

It's a strange one because in the championship with the mitre balls he seemed to consistently get it top corner but not anymore. The one he did today was a textbook example.

His only successful direct free kick that I recall last few seasons was the Villa winner... which was missing until it took a big deflection.

Wonder if we have a set-piece coach! Spuds do and from the first three corners against Leicester, they had the ball in the net from all three. One was disallowed for a foul on the keeper. They also nearly scored from a free kick floated into the area. Chalk and cheese with how ours turn out.

Yep about midway through the second half that was disgraceful, corners are meant to put the opposition under pressure ours are just a joke.

We don’t have a choice. Podence as a false 9 is nonsense so we had a plan to draw them in and play it around/through them rather than lump it. Main reason Neves was CB was to enable passing.

Needs Traore, Hwang or Costa to at least be able to challenge for a header.

Isn’t Tony Roberts our set piece coach? They are dire. Even when we do put a ball in the quality is atrocious.

I've nothing against the idea of short corner, or trying to do something different, but ours very rarely work and come to nothing todays were a joke play it short pass it back then lose possession, it's the same when we try to be clever with free kicks 9 times out of 10 we end up giving the ball away with no threat of actually creating anything or scoring. When we do go direct it's not much better as the quality of the ball in is often shocking

To be fair, modern football is full of too many smart **** patronising twerps who ridicule anything that isn’t taken straight from the Pep or Klopp playbook. Drives me mad.

Sometimes there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting the ball quickly upfield or launching the ball into the danger zone from a dead ball or throw in. Short goal kicks are laughable. It used to be something under 9s teams do because the goalkeeper couldn’t kick it very far. How on earth it’s made it to top flight football is beyond me.

Until we improve at corners and set pieces, ( yeah, right ), I think we should just lump the ball back to Collins at the halfway line………at least we’d keep poession.

Every time I see Moutinho stand over the ball before a free kick or a corner I automatically know it's a wasted opportunity.

Moutinho has hardly taken a corner all season or barely all year ... It's been rayan, Neto, even neves n nunes more than moutinho.......all I'm saying is we ain't very good at corners if we lump it in as well ...it barely results in anything.......

The first two season in the premier league under Nuno , mouthiho short corner routines did have some results at times....

Were not a tall team , it isn't gonna be a good source of goals , without being inventive....even man city yesterday towered over us.

Sticking moutinho, Jonny, Neto, podence and rayan in the box and lumping it in, isn't gonna work is it.....

What everyone who complains about short corners fails to realise is that putting the ball into the opponents penalty area risks losing possession to their defenders followed by some exertions, like running back, to defend the counter attack.
It's much easier to pass the ball back to the Centre halves and for them in turn to pass it back to the Goalkeeper. You don't have to break into a run. That also means you can last the full game time as let's face the chance of you being substituted off before 80+ minutes is virtually nil, and you know you'll have to save some energy for when the opposition puts fresh legs on the pitch.
