"He had been accused of causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress to Ferdinand by using "threatening, abusive or insulting" words or behaviour towards him."

"Ferdinand told the court that although he noted the man's "more aggressive body language", he did not see a monkey gesture or hear any abuse."

Not saying he didn't do it but surely if Ferdinand didn't see or hear it how can he stand accused of "causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress to Ferdinand"

Maybe the accuser is not Ferdinand, but he was the target???

The article says

The court heard Mr Arnold had allegedly made a monkey gesture towards Ferdinand, who was up on a gantry area above the Billy Wright Stand.

How on earth can you even see who is on a gantry above the Billy Wright stand, let alone make a gesture to them?

Apart from video evidence, witnesses also saying they heard the accused calling Ferdinand "an effing monkey" and the accused also admitting they'd done something "very stupid"?

Depends where he was. At the back of the Billy Quiet centre you can make out people on the gantry but I agree it's hardly face to face!

Actually further on it says

He was up on a gantry area in the Billy Wright Stand while “below were numerous Wolves supporters, engaging in harmless banter with him”.

So it must be closer than I thought

Not a lawyer but intent is a major consideration in this type of case.

Ferdinand looks a right scruff going to court. I know he is not the accused, but he is still a key witness and should show some respect for the court and the process.
It's not a wedding. There is no dress code. His shirt, trousers and shoes probably total two grand as well.

Im sure he was in the tv studio suite which I believe is the box nearest the south bank in the Billy Wright.

The "gantry" they refer to for the Man Utd game was an outdoor platform built over the Family Enclosure of the Billy Wright Stand.

Rio was often during the match watching decisions on the screen and then trying to convey them to the South Bank with varying degrees of success!
