Options for Right side of the team?

Something very noticeable is that our opponents attacks are more succesful when attacking down our right side. They get more opportunities challenging Jonny of Semedo than they do down our left side. Yesterday's goal for Brentford was again from an attack down our right side. All of our opponents go for our weaker right side.

What needs strengthening, the right back (our last line of defence), the right midfield to protect the right full back, or someone on the right wing prepared to press and/or track back a bit?

Semedo and Jonny have been disappointing and both in recent weeks have shown a distinct lack of effort jogging back when under attack. I have no answer other than if both players could actually play to their maximum abilities opposition might not have such luck down that side.

I'm still hoping for Dawson in January..... obviously for centre back cover .....but also for the back 3 option and also because he can play at right back ......give us the solid right back option ...

Bolla brought back from grasshoppers? Not sure what his ceiling is but has been there two seasons so could be useful.

Not trying to widen the discussion but bar Neves who has not been disappointing this season? How a bunch of internationals can play so badly is worrying but shows we need a top manager asap to get them organised.

Can’t really argue with any of that

I think teams are attacking us down the right because;

Jonny - isn’t fit and with it, plus seriously lacking in pace which after two torn ACL’s isn’t a suprise. This makes it an easy battle than RAN and Bueno who both have the pace to recover and be more of a nuisance. Plus if those two get in behind they have the pace to get up the field quickly which will keep them more honest in terms of being so far forward to minimise risk of a counter.

Semedo - people know he is weak in the air to any ball that goes to the back stick or in a more diagonal way. He gets trapped under the ball a lot, even when he wins headers, they aren’t great contacts as he doesn’t read the flight of a high ball well at all. So if you are an attacker who has good Arial ability or run onto the header with some pace to put into your leap you will beat him more often than not. This was a problem he improved at last season, however this season he is back to where he was when he first arrived in this area of his game.

Along with a centre half and centre forward, right back is another area we need to strengthen in January.

Unfortunately, Jonny looks shot and Semedo gets the basics wrong too often. A good strong, no-nonsense, steady right back would improve the team.

Is it not extremely unfair to blame this on our right side players when their goal came from a corner?

Semedo will make the odd mistake, as every defender will, but he is perfectly fine for us overall and needs to play all the time.

Confused by the whole thread to be honest. Is there an actual stat that says we concede more down our right? I though RAN was more targeted, obviously there are specific examples like Zaha. Our team is quite different anyway really. We attack down the right with Adama and Semedo sits with little cover, while on the left RAN/Bueno provide the width with Podence playing narrow.

Whoscored have us as poor at defending both sides!
