Is anyone else getting sick of it?

souless, identikit stadiums.

Kick off times moved all over the place.

Passionless, silent customers instead of supporters.

Endless commercialisation

****ing VAR.

Overly technical, tactical games.

Players not being allowed to tackle anymore.

expensive tickets

or am I just being a miserable, middle aged *******?

I agree with everything but ‘overly technical, tactical games’. Not sure why that’s a bad thing

Yes, we're sleepwalking into uncharted territory as a club as well. Not sure how long before the cons of attending well and truly outweigh the pro's.

Parts of what your saying I agree with, it's difficult bit you have to go along with the evolution. As much as I don't like certain parts of it.

Haha you sound like a miserable old git like me:D
Said on another thread it makes little difference to me what league we are in. Is it better in the prem? I am not so sure. Appreciate the quality of football is fantastic but for me it’s only half the reason I like going.

I think with everything you mentioned has sucked the life and enjoyment out of premier league football to an extent.
I don't really enjoy watching Premier league like i used to, i would rather watch Championship and european games for enjoyment
VAR has effected my enjoyment and love of the premier league tthis season and made me feel down about the whole game.

Watch Portsmouth v Wolves 1967 on YouTube.
Wolves came back from being 2-0 down at half time to win 3-2.
Peter Knowles scored the equaliser and booted the ball out of the ground. Portsmouth charged Wolves for the cost of a new ball.
That was what football used to be like.
Loved it!

The Premier league is full of ****, it's the only place to be though.

Just one by one:
Stadiums - everyone hates a bowl, but is it better to be in the back of Anfield or Goodison trying to see the pitch under the roof?
KO times - some are ****, 12:30 Sat etc, but 2pm tomorrow or 3pm today I'm not fussed, it does mean there are games to watch when you're not at a game, so easier to avoid doing anything useful.
Some of the people taking photos are a bit odd, some London games in particular it felt like half the home crowd had bought in as part of a weekend city break. Doesn't really bother me though.
VAR - absolutely ****.
Tactical games - for a more sophisticated audience than me, I like a bit of hurly burly, but then Neves probably doesn't get a game.
Tackling is long gone, but then so are career ending injuries.
Ticket prices at £30 though, I don't think that's too bad (having been to Leeds away in the Champ!)

Overall I'm about neutral.

The passion has been slowly eroded since sky re-invented the game. They ****ed about with kick off times, injected cash into the game.

The clubs ****ed up by giving more to the player/agent, which in turn gave the player more power.

The average man starting to be priced out of the game, meaning atmosphere is diluted, and generations off families that went with Dad to the game starting to end.

Whats not to hate about the modern game?

I saw the clip of Brian Clough slapping a couple of lads who’d joined in a pitch invasion when forest won a semi final in the early 90s.
Then showed him meeting them the next day. They all apologised and Cloughie gave them both a kiss on the cheek.
Can you imagine if that happened now??

It was pretty extraordinary at the time to be fair. Cloughie was a one off though.

Haha brilliant! I’m only 41 but used to watch Rising damp with my mom and dad.

I'm sure people will be harking back to the good old days of 2019 in 30 years time :D

He was pretty drunk, to be fair, when he did it though. A unique person and manager that lasted from old football to the modern game, until his health let him down. Great man.

They will. I'm 34 and I'm like it with music. Music these days ain't half as good as when I was growing up in the '90s and early '00s.

In 30 years time football fans will probably be saying "Remember when we could have a proper greasy burger from Mr Sizzle. These days it's all tofu, lab-grown meat, and vegan ****."

If we'd beaten Braga and were top of the league I bet you would not be saying this?

I totally agree with the op on this.
I played football at a very decent level until I was 36 and have watched football all of my life and the game now is far far from the one I grew up with. It’s getting to be a zero contact sport full of celebrities earning more money in a week than the average man earns in 10 years yet we all go to the games week in week out and idolise these people. Gibbs white gave an interview last year stating that he was staying humble all the while he was flashing off a 30k watch. Yeah totally humble.....(not picking on him it’s just an image that sticks in my mind)
The days of getting scouted from lower leagues and seeing your players mixing in the towns are gone and with that I feel the soul of football for the working man is rapidly going. You go up the games now and inevitably you will see gangs of chavs screaming abuse at all and sundry with half a bag of Bolivia’s finest in em. I love the thought of being at the games but just lately I’m not enjoying actually being there.

I’m mid 50s, but have probably enjoyed the last 2 seasons more than any others. It ain’t all bad ... but I don’t half miss ‘Knees up mother Brown’ on the old South Bank terrace. No forced atmosphere in those days ... the singing started up naturally ... well before ko time.

I thought it was just because we get older that we start complaining about the state of modern football? Personally between the age of around 10 to 25 were my peak Wolves supporting years, that's when they dominated my free time. Losing a game would ruin the weekend for me but these days, while obviously disappointed, I never get upset when we lose. The highs are still good but I don't feel the lows anymore.

I am sometimes surprised to find out the ages of posters on here, I am concerned for some who are 40+ ranting on for months about how terrible the transfer window is. Totally different to my experience offline, those under 30 do get passionate about transfers but those over 30 are usually quite mellow about signings.

I would. Felt like it for a few years now and that feeling only increased last year despite the great season we had.
I’m talking about football as a whole.

An individuals age has nothing to do with the hijacking of football by forces that never did want to address football's ill's in the past. The poor crowd control, antique stadia and a minority who brought tribal violence masquerading as supporting your team was used as a smokescreen to sell out the game to the 'global market' and by government who hadn't a clue about the game but decided to act in draconian (and irrationally in the case of terracing which never killed anybody and is allowed almost everywhere else in sport) manner.

On the pitch we see the art of a decent tackle being outlawed instead of clamping down only on those tackles that might destroy an individuals career (or worse). Those pitches though are one thing that is an improvement. Not so the obscene wealth of players and officials mirrored against lower league clubs failing and struggling to stay in business and the rise in the cost to those 'most important people' (to use a well worn platitude) the fans.

Players are now no longer really a part of the communities they represent earning more and often living miles away (although a few always did to be fair just not in other countries)

Age changes the way we support of course. Who looks on any part of life in quite the same way at 60 as they did at 16, 30 or even fifty? That's a progressive thing and doesn't alter the way we view our clubs. It's just today a big question has to be 'What is that club we are supporting' Owned by organisations and people who can never really understand what football club's really are all about. (or were).

It's still better to have a WWFC in the top league if only for the good of the City which spawned it and some of the football seen these last two years has still been a joy to watch at times. Football, real deal football played by real deal players can still be seen and Molineux still resembles a football ground. For how long? The jury's still out I think on that one.

There's no escaping the truth though. Whether 16 or 80 years of age football isn't a game which represents fully the communities, cities and towns which gave them breath the way it used to.

Got sick of it many years ago. It's just something to largely laugh about and have the occasional moment of excitement for your own club. It's the corruption, bribery and SKY bull that makes it impossible to fully enjoy as a sport.

I look back and think they were better times. But were they? I just dont think we knew asmuch. With social media and football on tv rammed down our throats every other day it tedious these days. But other than the mid to late eighties. I remember attending and being proper ****ed off through the nineties. But after a few pints in heroes was ok again. But these days. I come on here and it ****s me off.

I'm 28 and prefer going to non-league grounds for a 'football' experience.

- Kickoffs are awful. Sundays are a joke to get up and around the country, Monday/Friday night football? Forget about it, I don't finish work till 6 so I'm not getting anywhere near Molineux.
- You can't escape 'football', it's everywhere. I want to switch off some days but simply can't.
- Cost, seriously.
- Stadiums are dead, like it or loathe it, the home fans at every Premiership ground (inc. our own when the tide is against us, ala Chelsea) is woeful.

Im 52.... the last 2 seasons has been the best football ive seen a Wolves team play, with the most skillfull players.
But the modern game in general i dont enjoy as much, the art of tackling is now outlawed, the game is over analyzed, the working class are slowly being priced out of the working class game, diving/ feigning injury/ time wasting is rife.... i hate that teams feel obliged to kick the ball of of play when an opposition player is down, im sure in 90% of cases if they played on the player would just get up and carry on and im also another one that hates VAR.

On the upside though as an overseas supporter one positive for me is im able to watch every Wolves game ( and every other premier league game) in full.

The Europa league got me fired up, until Thursday put a bit of a dampener on it.
I think it is over familiarity with The Premier League . We can watch it throughout the month , not once a week live , and weekly TV highlights..

Yep I am, it’s only the love for Wolves (and for the most part the memories of how it was) that keeps me coming back.

I ****ing hate football in general and what it now represents to be honest.

I suppose you have to throw the digital age/social media in. I used to leave the ground, jump on bus and by the time i got to ashma, buy a pink.

My thoughts on the game were my own, and ****ing correct, untill shared down the ash later.

Now i share them on social media and 9/10 I'm told im ****ing wrong. I mean wtf is going on, I'm not allowed to be wrong :D

Football is a mess, you just have to look at what's gone on at FIFA over the years. Unfortunately, money has changed things for the worse. The saddest thing about modern football, for me, especially the Premier League, is the lack of home grown talent on and off the pitch.

Just support a non league club. Solved.
To be fair, I back this. Whenever Wolves aren't playing, I'll either go watch Dagenham & Redbridge or literally pop over the road and watch Barking.

Cheap, cheerful and still maintains a 'football' atmosphere.

You do realise we could change modern football that everyone seems to hate.

Despite the OP listing a host of things, I think the ultimate issue many have with modern football is the atmosphere/prices.

The game is faster and better, so whilst tackling is now a problem, the overall game is great and the reaction to kick-off times, particularly to us a Midlands based club, is really over the top IMO.

Of course, we could actually solve the first problem by protesting and taking a stand but people aren't ever that bothered when it comes to down to it.

They do in Germany and they have cheap tickets, free train travel as part of your match ticket and very good atmospheres.

We’ll never change it now too infected by the cancer that is modern day fans with an “I’m alright jack” attitude.

Just look at the clowns on here falling over themselves to defend price rises etc
