A controversial character because of his views on the opposite sex - but my dad has met him and said how lovely and friendly he was and had time for everyone (male and female), so that's good enough for me.

Rest in peace John.

Was a great broadcaster - ok his views were very 1940,s but he enjoyed life and it showed- thoughts with his missus "the booby"

[Norman Bell]

He was a breath of fresh air when he came on the scene. To see a bloke dressed like Sherlock Holmes doing " tic tack " signs was superb. He had a good knowledge of football as well as I can remember John appearing quite often on Saint and Greavsie.

Sadly we are seeing less and less characters commentating on sports now as the companies go for media trained " let us not upset anyone " tailors dummies !
