The Premier League
Championship
League 1
League 2
Serie A
La Liga
Bundesliga
Ligue 1
Eredivisie
Portuguese Premiera

Of all those leagues/teams - One solitary side has scored fewer goals than Wolves this season.

The Spanish minnows Cadiz.

Bournemouth scored the same amount this afternoon as we have this campaign.

Newcastle have scored 3x as many in 7 days.

Haaland has... Oh who cares with that Robot.

Man City have scored 33. Leicester 15. Even Notts Forest have managed double what we have.

****ing despicable. And worse still - We can't even bemoan our misfortune. Both of Podence's goals were lucky. Neves' was a screamer. Other than that, we could probably list the clear cut chances we've created throughout.

Every single member of the squad and coaching staff should be ashamed of themselves.

I went down to level 7 of the pyramid, as far as I can tell we're one of the lowest scoring teams in England.

This has always been coming. September 2020 was the beginning of the end for this team,we sold two of our biggest creators and scorers and replaced them with two players who cost more but delivered the square route of SFA.

Add to that the big injury our top goalscorer, suffered not long after this, and the failure to act when it was obvious to most that he's nowhere near the same player, then is it any wonder the goals have dried up?

Is the big elephant in the room that we are too Portuguese? Not many want to attribute this reason to our problems but what works in Portugal doesnt necessarily work here. The slow slow build up play may work against lesser opposition but in the PL where every team has top physical and skilful defences, it just doesn't. Nuno probably knew this hence the counter attacking style. But Bruno was naive in thinking that we had the quality of players to "play through the lines".
Only the very top teams have that ability.
Others need to use more physicality, run more and possess plenty of desire to achieve their aims in this league.
Of course I m not saying that Portuguese players can't do this but they are not programmed to do this.
A non-Portuguese coach may be the answer as when you have so many Portuguese players in the team they may just automatically revert to type amongst their compatriots.
Of course more non-portuguese players would help in preventing that.
Furthermore, the term "thick as thieves" spring to mind. Imagine the atmosphere in training now. As much as they would try, it would be impossible not to feel like an outsider if you weren't portuguese in Compton and that must affect the "pack" mentality.

So here's a depressing stat for Sunday:

In the top 7 levels of the football pyramid, Wolves are the worst scorers in absolute terms, and joint worst in goals per game tied with Gillingham (0.3333).

Even in level 8, only two teams have us beat (Gateshead have higher goals per game, and have scored 3)

Coggeshall Town
Guernsey FC

Astonishing.

Even worse than the Dave Jones 03/04 side which scored 4 in the first 9. It can only get better from here though, right?
