We have already showed alot of versatility and alot of different formations depending on the situation.

Shows good tactical nous from JL and importantly shows the players are being schooled on the training ground.

If i fit the current team as of 16/01/2023 (including proposed rumours)

These are the i think starting Elevens per formation. (or best)

Please bare in mind, im not allowing for Silva, Neto, B Traore atm.

Feel free to suggest your own and what are your thoughts on the formation changes

I'm not sure what the actual formation Is but when he brings Toti on RAN seems to be a L/b when we dont have the ball, but switches to being a forward a bit more fluid than an actual W/b when we have the ball, this is something Pep does at City.

I like the 4231 but would have Nunes as one of the deeper midfielders and Lemina maybe further forward?

We seem to mainly play a 433/4411. 433 in possession, with Neves dropping deeper. But off that ball, we go into two banks of 4 in a mid block, a midfielder (as Joao Moutinho did on Saturday) to push just off the striker.

JL likes fluidity all over the pitch so we will see changes in formation regularly
Makes us far less predictable and frees Neves up more to move forward now

Agreed neves, seems to be allowed freedom to move forward, so close to a wordly with that strike, well picked out by nunes

I think the most attacking variant is a 4-2-3-1, which Manchester United women play really well.

The back four speaks for itself. First choice in the two would be Neves and Nunes: tasked with turning the ball over and either breaking the lines by moving forwards with it (Nunes) or releasing it quickly to attackers in space (Neves).

Jimenez would be the focal point in attack, with three of the other attackers behind him.

Using a variety of players and leaving some out dependent on formation, these are my thoughts.....

I've left Guedes out of all of them, as I don't think he will be here when the window closes.

As I said in the other thread, so many options of how to set up.

I think however we choose to set up, Adama, Ait-Nouri, Costa, Moutinho, B.Traore, Lemina and Neto when he returns will mainly be used to give us options from the bench.

We finally have the players to give us a plan A, B and C, and a manager that appears to know what he's doing and when to use them.

4-4-2 for me please. Think it will get the most out of Neves passing ability plus the extra guy up front will help against the teams that like to play out from the back.
It can change into a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-2-2 or 4-2-4 fairly easy. I think we-ll carry an extra attacking threat from genuinely having another attacking player.
I'm not convinced we've properly solved the massive goalscoring problem yet in the 4-3-3.

If it keeps us guessing it keeps the opposition guessing too.

I am loving JL right now. As much as I loved Nuno we were very, very predictable - this is a welcome change.
