The club revealed on 10 August that an exclusivity period granted to a group of would-be investors had ended without a deal, with reports suggesting that the unnamed group's interest had ended. But, writing in his programme notes ahead of Saturday's match against Wolves, Bates said talks are ongoing.

"Suffice to say that the exclusivity period has now lapsed, but we are continuing talks with the same people." Bates added that abuse from fans aimed at him over the delays was not helping: "We have to get it right and public comment and chants doesn't help. They have discouraged two parties who didn't like what they saw or heard." PA

Commons to rescue for Celtic at Ross County

Ross County extended their unbeaten league run to 37 matches with a 1-1 home draw against Celtic, and they were only 15 seconds from a first victory, rather than a third draw in their debut season in the Scottish Premier League. Richard Brittain scored County's first goal of the campaign four minutes into the second half and, though Celtic deserved a point, their equaliser from Kris Commons came only in the last seconds of added time.

There were first wins of the SPL season for Hibernian, 2-1 at St Mirren, Motherwell, who were victorious at Kilmarnock by the same score, and Aberdeen, also 2-1 and also away from home, at St Johnstone. Inverness Caley secured a 2-2 draw at Hearts with the last kick of the game.

Andy Little scored a hat-trick as Rangers came from behind against East Stirling to win 5-1 at Ibrox in the Irn-Bru Third Division. Staff and agencies

Málaga scorer aged 16

Málaga's Fabrice Olinga became La Liga's youngest scorer at 16 years and 98 days old when his late goal earned a 1-0 win at promoted Celta Vigo. The Cameroonian striker, from Málaga's youth team, came on as a second-half substitute. He bundled the ball in off his thigh from close range in the 84th minute. Reuters

Leeds United

Celtic

Ross County

guardian.co.uk © 2012 Guardian News and Media Limited or its affiliated companies.
