First competitive game of the season

Do we all realise that our first meaningful game?? Will actually be in the League (COC) Cup. Played during the week prior to KO of The Championship. I'm hoping for Burton away

How come we have to enter this competition in round one? Seems we are expected to give everything we have far too early, can't we pull out prematurely on the grounds that our defence isn't good enough, and it leaves us with no protection against unexpected deliveries into the box?
